Yjm / superlead variants
Now that the YJM will be coming out my question is this. Do you think that Marshall will end up making signature plexis for their other famous artists with just little differences from each other? The Page Plexi, The Brown Sound EVH Plexi, Angus ACDC etc etc

Re: Yjm / superlead variants
I wouldn't mind an ACDC sig: 1959 100 watt Super Lead Plexi w/autobias, varipower some graphic treatment and both Malcom and Angus signatures! They've always played Marshalls and they deserve it! The other two guys (Jimmy and Eddie) don't play Marshall exclusively, so screw 'em!
We'll see how that Joe Satriani model comes along...

Re: Yjm / superlead variants
What? Screw Page? wow..
Plus EVH has his own brand of amps, not model... And although yes I think Angus deserves a sig, what would they do just make a plexi with his name on it??? I don't believe his was modded/different in any way

Re: Yjm / superlead variants
Angus' tone is mainly a cranked JTM45--what normal human can utilize a beast like that? Page's most famous live rig was '73, which by most accounts was a Super Lead modified to be even LOUDER, and that was turned up quite a bit. A true re-creation of either of these amps would be silly, IMO, because even if we had the originals, we would never be able to use them.
Now a master volume/power scaling equipped version (lower powered in Page's case) that could cop these amazing signature live tones would be ridiculously popular without a doubt... |

Re: Yjm / superlead variants
It doesn't surprise me and much more deserving than Page, for instance!
Gary's amps were all Marshall! 1959 Super Leads, 1992 Super Bass, 1987 Super leads, 1960B Cabinets! Jimmy rocked the Hiwatts, the Fenders, Vox, Matamp? and of course Marshall too! And regarding an AC/DC sig, take a JTM45/100 put a lightning bolt logo and all the newer niceties! That's it! Maybe that would prevent some "owners" from modding vintage amps!??!!

Re: Yjm / superlead variants
No offense to the late great Gary Moore, but Jimmy Page did twice as much for Marshall amps than anyone alive or dead except maybe Jimi. Watch the NBA playoffs? Yep, Jimmy Page riffs front and center to kick off the biggest game of the year today. Guy hasn't even tried for a decade and his music is still as relevant today as it was 40 years ago. Jimmy Page is Rock and Roll. Period.

Re: Yjm / superlead variants
Lets not forget Marshall did make Page a couple of amps that he used live at the O2 show. They were accompanied by a personal letter of best wishes for the forthcoming show from Jim Marshall himself and Jimmy was reportedly overawed by the gift. Jimmy played it and took it home with him.
The amps were basically handwired Super100JH Marshall's. Page used (1) during the concert and had the other on standby. Put a quad of KT66's in the new YJM and you will have hammer of the gods tone. ![]()

Re: Yjm / superlead variants
I vote for the Papus signature Marshall!!!!!
All controls only work in the range from 8 to 10 - the knobs still turn all the way, but they don't do anything but 8-10

Re: Yjm / superlead variants
Thanks for the update. I was wondering how far it had gotten before he passed.

They didn't need Hendrix or Rhoads' sign-off, so why should Moore be any different? I bet there are some legal issues to be settled within Moore's estate - chief of which might be "who exactly is authorised to sign-off on the project now?" There's no way Marshall would drop a lucrative product line just because the artist died.

The Super100JH and the 1959RR are labeled as signature amps but they are actually tribute amps and contain circuitry already 'signed off' by those artists as they are replicas of the same amps they played back in the day. Gary's signature head was going to be based on a 1959HW. He got to play through a prototype which "blew him away" The features on the Gary Moore amp were different then the YJM100 and I know traditional Plexi purists would have loved this one. Doubt the design will move into another project but knowing what I do about it I hope it does. I think we can all agree Gary Moore was a big loss. Last edited by nuke; 05-08-2011 at 12:08 PM. |
