Ok here's the scoop. Tonight I'm going to look at and possibly buy a MG100HDFX 1/2 Stack. It's been in my local classifieds and he can't seem to get rid of it. Apparently it is in great shape and works fine. The price is a surprising $340 CDN Now I've read some reviews and it's a mixed bag. Basically I would plan to use the head as is or with a Line6 PODxt Live. Keep in mind that i already have a JVM 410H and 1960a. I just figured I could leave the JVM at the rehearsal space and use the MG at home instead of lugging the JVM back and forth. Is it a waste of even that small amount of money?
Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Re: Attention MG users; Need your opinions QUICK!
Ok ... got this thing home last night. Seems to be not a bad little amp. Amazing for the price I paid. It's smaller that I thought; about 3/4 of the size of my other 1/2 Stack. My wife says it "looks cute." Sound wise? Not too bad; distinctively Marshall. I have but 3 complaints. Firstly, the usual fan noise that others complain of. Secondly, noticed that the crunch setting on the clean channel is quite a bit louder than the others. Lastly, not alot of bass from this thing compared to my JVM. Right now I'm running my old POD 2.0 into an EQ and then into the effects return. The EQ is pretty flat with the exception of the 2nd last band which is turned up about 1/2 way. This setup works very well. Perfect for a loud and cool looking practice amp. No regrets thus far. Only thing I might do is see if i can swap the fan for a silent one as I work at a computer store and fans are easy to come by. Just thought I'd let you all know how I made out.

Re: Attention MG users; Need your opinions QUICK!
Hey neighbor...I'm in Lakefield. I saw the same ad and thought it was a good price. I have a DSL half stack and had no need for it, but thought it would be good to use for practice...should I ever be successful in finding a group to play with around here...
Are you going to the open house at Rawkspace this weekend? I thought I would check it out. Maybe I'll see you there

Yeah that ad was on there for a while and the price just kept going down. Passed by Bud's (local guitar shop) and they were listing the 1/2 stack at about $825 +tx so, I pat myself on the back for a good find.

Re: Attention MG users; Need your opinions QUICK!
I have a DSL 100 / 1960AV half-stack.
But I also have an MG100HDFX half stack and I really enjoy it. A lot of people don't like 'em cause they can sound pretty harsh. I dial mine in with the CONTOUR all the way to 0 (for good mids). I keep the BASS all the way up. And I keep the MID and TREBLE controls down to 3 or below. It's a setting I learned from a Harmony Central reviewer. At first I thought "No way that will work......." But when I tried it I was amazed. Here's my MG halfstack: ![]() Probably another reason the MG's are kinda un-popular is the speakers that come with them. I mean, look at those tiny magnets. ![]() So I replaced them with some Warehouse Speakers Veteran 30's (Vintage 30 clones) and it sounds much bigger and more full... and doesn't harsh out at higher volumes.
