Matching Head & Cab
If I had a chance to get a 4x12 cab:
First were a matching cab with the head (JCM800), the cab says JCM800 lead series 4x12, coincidentally it's made the same year of the head in 1984 and Second were a 1960 or 1960A Lead 4x12 cab. Which cab would I choose? And why is that? P.S: Here's the condition, I couldn't have both cabs tested side by side, so basically would buy it blindly, but assuming both cabs has no defects, mods, etc and work perfectly. Thanks |

Re: Matching Head & Cab
depends only on your taste; optically as well as soundwise!

Re: Matching Head & Cab
Good luck with that! I'd never buy an amp without at least trying the exact amp out and if that's not feasible try one that's the same type that you have access to.

Re: Matching Head & Cab
Found this on drtube.com.
1960A JCM800, Lead 4x12" 300W 16Ω cabinet angled front. 1960B JCM800, Lead 4x12" 300W 16Ω cabinet straight front. These cabinets were fitted with 4 Celestion G12T-75 16Ω speakers. 1960AV JCM800, Lead 4x12" 280W 16Ω cabinet angled front. 1960BV JCM800, Lead 4x12" 280W 16Ω cabinet straight front. These cabinets were intoduced in 1987. They were probably fitted with 4 Celestion Vintage 30 16Ω speakers." So between these two models (A/B vs AV/BV), the only difference is the speakers they're using? What other differences in there if any? |

Re: Matching Head & Cab
I first go right to the heart of the matter, in this case how it sounds, then look for mono stereo options etc., but the very first thing is how it sounds with your guitar(s).
That is the utmost priority, how it sounds to you. They're all good, some folks will try to steer you one way or another, but I say go with what sounds best to you. Have I said what I think will help you decide already?

Re: Matching Head & Cab
you get a better sounding tone on the vintage as oppose to just the a/b, better mids and low end
