please forgive me for i have sinned

last year i sold the best JCM800 2204 ive come across and probably the best amp I've played full stop, because it didnt quite work for the stuff i was playing at the time and i switched to a modded fender HRD (modded to a dumble style)........ but as fate would have it i bought a DSL 50 and 1960AV for a ridiculously good price with the intention of selling on (its currently on ebay). Heres where it gets interesting yesterday i posted on the joe bonamassa forum asking a question... If Joe had to choose an 'average joe' set up (Page 1) - Joe's Guitars, Amps and Gear - Joe Bonamassa Official Message Board

if you read the question things will become clear, earlier tonight in rehersal my modded fender crapped out big time so my dilema is do i keep the DSL 50 on the word that my fav guitarist says he'd use it (i honestly havent tried it), fix the fender or get something else.

ps if anyone has a 2204 with a pentode/triode switch on the back and an added fx loop let me know.

cheers
trigs

Umm no dont go by that. But nonetheless they are GREAT AMPS! go with what you want! Not what Joe wants......

I kept trying to convince myself to keep my 2000 by watching Richie Sambora.... but I sold and now I miss it now that ive been around the block a couple times.

Re: please forgive me for i have sinned

how about you sell both and get a 2204 and mod it for what you liked in your old one? hard to beat a 2204 period imo.

Re: please forgive me for i have sinned

I sold an original late eighties JCM800 2204 awhile back and never really regretted it. It was a fine amp, but not the best for my purposes. Also I never regretted selling the Studio 15 I had. The Vintage Modern for sure scratches my Marshall itch though.

I do regret trading that Marshall straight seventies cab with original Greenbacks for the Marshall slant cab with "vintage 30's", but were in fact G12-30's (NOT the same speaker at all). I also got some cash in the deal.

I can't believe someone is going to compare a Vintage Modern or Fender HRD to the GODLIKE sound of a 2204.

Count me as one of those. I had an early '70s SLP 100 Stack that I played through back then, which I sold in the late 80's. Even though it's way too much power for me now, I wish I had it back.

Yeah, I have wanted to sell a lot of things but my old Marshall I will always keep as a piece of Marshall History. It needs some work done but it's still cool.

I won't comment on the HRD, never had one, never wanted to.

But IMHO, for my uses, the Vintage Modern slapped the 2204 hard, knocked it down, took its milk money, and sent it home whimpering to its mama. If I had a 2204 now I would trade it for a 2466 in a shake (i.e. 10nS).

However, I do perfectly understand why some folks like the 2204 better. It and the 2466 are very different animals and do not really cover the same ground, depending on how you look at them. The 2466 is a velvet sofa, while the 2204 is a 20mm cannon.

Re: please forgive me for i have sinned

Count me in as well - I sold a killer sounding '86 2204. I recently acquired a '78 JMP 2203, however, and I think it's countered my loss on the 2204. But that 2204 did have something really special about it. Darn it!

I have no feelings for any of the DSL's, TSL's or JVM's I've owned - happy to have seen them off. The VM... awesome amp, but I think I'll stick with the older ones.

Moral of the story - get rid of the Fender & DSL and buy a 2204 like diesect said.

Actually the fender now its been modded is awesome for robben ford style blues which is what i was playing last year but isnt giving me the classic rock sound im needing just now. Theres some tempting amps on ebay just now so i'l choose carefully!

Oh no,no,no... I'm sorry, but we can't allow that, due to this fallacy of indiscretion with your previous Marshall ownership, your collectors card has been revoked!
