OK, change of subject for now. If they don't take the POS B-rated tubes back for a full refund we'll discuss further so no one else get's screwed out of $100 like I did.

Re: DSL50 Reverb Makes Noise...

Really no need to discuss this further, we really get that you don't like them, but contacting them before you bashed them should be standard business practice. No matter what you say now, it will be difficult to interpret your views as objective.

You felt they personally did you wrong because you didn't like the tone of the tubes when in fact they delivered the goods you purchased.

All the other statements by others about how they no longer match tubes properly is based on innuendo and speculation and has no basis in fact, no proof that this is the case. It would be simple to prove this is the case because there are people who have the proper equipment to test their sets for accuracy and Euro Tubes is aware of this no doubt.

Again, I appreciate that you don't care for how the JJ's sound in your amp, really I do because tubes are subjective as are amps, guitars, etc., but what I don't get is how if your amp sounded so good with Doug's setup why you'd change the proven formula? That is your prerogative of course but bottom line is I hope you can find a resolution with them without the attacks on this forum because they have been good to a number of us and we're just trying to have a good time here and avoid the negativity that plague so many other forums.

Re: DSL50 Reverb Makes Noise...

Hey zuesecho! Good to to see ya here. Its alot tamer over here than HC. What kind of noise are you getting when using the reverb? Is it a hum or what? Let me know so I can compare it to mine.

There is 2 of us that don't like JJ ECC803S's in our DSL's. I'm glad you found some that sound good for your set up. I put a fair amount of money into discovering what sounds good in mine. Sharing what works and doesn't can save each other time and money but even then you have to factor in taste being different. Sometimes it pays off though and we land on the same page.

Here's to caring enough to share your experiences and help a fellow player out.

Re: DSL50 Reverb Makes Noise...

That's really it in a nutshell Solar.

No doubt someone here will help with the reverb issue or at least get you pointed in the right direction zeus so stick with it. I thought I read somewhere on here about someone having an issue with their reverb recently and someone was able to tell them to take the reverb apart and check for loose connections etc.

It was a recent thread IIRC.

Dude I'm sorry you feel that way man. I was just trying to have good time also and I got screwed out of $100 on POS tubes that sound like ass. I know tone is subjective but the assness of these tubes is beyond subjectivity. We'll see if Bob takes them back but I doubt it. Additionally his sells sets specifically for a DSL50 and they do not sound anywhere near the way they are described.

BTW one of the KT77s from Eurotubes has like little specs of metal flake stuck to the glass all around the inside of the tube. Is this normal for a good quality tube?

Now the difference between the stock tubes and the Tung Sol, Shunguang, and Penta are much more in the realm of subjectivity.

It did not have Dougs tube when I bought it. I bought it off ebay and the seller shipped it with virtually no packaging protection as the amp was bouncing around inside the box. Also it's a 1998 amp and it had stck marshall pres and Svetlana EL34s and while it sounded good it did have an intermitternt noise that I thought is probably related to the tubes.

Since I wanted to try the KT77 and everyone here was raving about Eurotubes and that you gotta "buy them from the right guy" I though getting the set from them would be good since Doug was out of KT77s.

Doug warned me that the JJPres were not going to be good (I inquired about buying them from him and he still did not recomend them) so just to be safe and experiment with different tubes I ordered a set of pres based on his recommendations. Glad I did. They have real musical sound.

So that's the strory man. Sorry if it came off harsh but I can't just waste $100 on crap tubes.

Hi Solar, Yeah the reverb noise is a hum. Especially on clean channel it gets louder as you turn up the reverb. Thanks for checking man.

Re: DSL50 Reverb Makes Noise...

Ok zues here is some info I found out from Voodoo regarding the reverb noise:

1.) RCA Reverb Cables:
The first thing I would suspect is the RCA reverb cables as they are very
poor quality. The good news is that the RCA cables are not hard wired to the
PC boards (like many amps) so you can simply purchase a better quality pair
of RCA cables (we can get you set up with that) and install them. Even if
it's not the problem it will upgrade the quality/tone if the reverb itself.

2.) Chip:
Other than that I would suspect the reverb chip itself may be failing

3.) Ground Connection:
or possibly the ground itself may have come off. I believe they make
connection to ground through a green wire with a spade lug connector and
sometimes these come loose causing the same issues.

4.) Reverb Pan:
It's possible it's the reverb pan however what you are describing does not
sound like the reverb pan so this would be the last thing I would suspect as
most of the time (when the pan dies) the reverb simply stops working (IE: no
reverb or noise will come out).

Thought the same thing Steelhorse.

As for the reverb it apparently had some shipping damage. As I mentioned before the head wasn't packed very well by the seller.

One of the suspension springs had come off and it looked like one of connector terminals was bent and possibly touching the case. I bent it back out and reconnected the suspension spring then reinstalled it with a good set of RCA cables (fat and gold plated).

OMG, it's like there was NO reverb before. The noise is gone completely and now there is so much lush reverb on tap it's almost a sin.

Cheers.
