Post can anyone help with info on my jcm900

i have a red jcm900 model 4100, i could not find any info online about a limited edition jcm900. it has a badge on the cab saying limited edition 1997 like the badge on the white 35th anniversary amps. i have never seen one like this anywhere else. it has a label on the chassis that says it was shipped with 5881 tubes. anyone with info please help me identify my amp.

Re: can anyone help with info on my jcm900

you are right, i have dug through the interet also
and cant find one, means its pretty rare amp you got.

Seems to be a JCM 900 High Gain Dual Reverb like i have
but with different tolex and grill cloth

Re: can anyone help with info on my jcm900

any idea what it may be worth? i contacted marshall and they had a guy from korg call me. they did not offer a ton of info, except to say that a few dealers did have their own limited shop runs of 900's in custom colors, and that def-leppard ordered 20 red 4100 with 1960ax cabs for a tour in 1997. there was a contest where you could win a chance to go on stage and play with the band and keep the guitar and amp, and it is probable that it could be from the tour given the grill clothes on most shop runs were just black and had a badge with the shop name and not just limited edition 1997, and they mostly shipped regular 1960 cabs with G-12 75 speakers and the stereo/mono switch on the cab not the single cup input jcm 800 type with 25watt greenbacks.

i was figuring around $2000, but wanted to see what other people thought. there is not a single scratch or tear on it and it is in perfect working condition all around. also the cab has metal handles.

Re: can anyone help with info on my jcm900

I'd put a higher price on it. It seems those LE's are extremely rare and in the condition yours is in it should fetch a hefty sum. I'd also contact Marshall or Korg USA to see if they can tell you anything on the LE's. They won't be able to tell you anything specifically about that amp and cab but they should be able to tell you date of manufacture, how many were made that sort of thing.

Why would you sell it?

Re: can anyone help with info on my jcm900

If it were mine first I'd have to ask why I was selling it!

And if you were indeed going to sell it on ebay for instance I'd ask 2999.99 and have a best offer option, set the parameters up in the best offer option to decline obvious crack head offers say anything below 1500.00 it will automatically decline (just as an example).

Shipping is going to be high for this and hopefully you can track down boxes that these will fit in so you don't have to build them from scratch yourself which though not difficult is kind of a pain the arse!

Just my 2 cents RED!

Re: can anyone help with info on my jcm900

boxes are not an issue, i work in a music store and we are a marshall dealer, also i have flight cases for all my amps. i have never used ebay and dont think i ever would. if i did sell it id really want to meet the person and have them look at it and play it first to be sure they are getting what they want, and so i can make sure it is not for some spoiled kid who will mistreat it.

Good luck with it then. Still not sure why you'd sell it as it seems such a rarity.

im not planning to sell it. i was curious what it was worth and how rare it is. i wanted to see what someone would offer for it, or trade for it. like a silver 2555 half stack maybe...

Re: can anyone help with info on my jcm900

If you work for a retailer and you can't even come up with a value, it's gonna be difficult for anyone to and that detracts from that sort of trade imo unless you run into a collector who has a few jube stacks and is looking to add something unique to his collection.

With the Jubilee's there is a market value established fairly well on ebay and a mint 2555 1/2 stack would probably fetch 4 grand or more. I've seen mint heads -alone- go for between 3-4K the main difference between the SJ and yours is that it's got not only the special limited edition looks and name but the tone and sound is unique and all it's own.

Your setup on the other hand, it's really the looks, it's rarity and the fact that it's an LE that sets it apart, because all it really is circuit wise for all we know, is a JCM900 4100 with a fantastic exterior.

What does the back of the head and cab look like?

That's a crazy beautiful amp RED. Yes and unless you can trade it for a SJ halfstack I wouldn't get rid of it unless the money you got for it would get you what you want!

Re: can anyone help with info on my jcm900

at the risk of sounding stupid, i never thought i would own an amp other people would dig like this one. i got this amp in a trade for a 08 les paul standard and it came with another 4x12 cab and $350 the cab was a 79 straight cab with rola celestions that was re-tolexed and grilled to match the amp.

Re: can anyone help with info on my jcm900

Maybe sell it locally for what can can get you close to a JB 1/2 stack but in the end I think you'll be about 1/2 way short.

Trades are precarious also. I still haven't figured out who sends what first etc.

Re: can anyone help with info on my jcm900

ok so i have other amps i could use like my JCM800 2203, but my singer and drummer really like the sound of the JCM900 and i have been gigging with it over the last 6 months, should i just go buy a regular JCM900 and keep this one in the garage. i have a few friends with 4100's they want to sell in the $500 range.

Re: can anyone help with info on my jcm900

That sounds like a better idea RED. Now that you know the sound you need that will help you decide on the other 4100 to use for gigs.

I'd also cover or case the LE if you have something that will work.

Re: can anyone help with info on my jcm900

If it sounds like the amp you wind up buying sounds like it could use some juice, get a re-tube kit either from your store or from Euro Tubes depending on the matching ability of your source.

The tubes from Euro are hand picked, matched and they send out sets based on tonal preferences. They also provide a balanced tube for the phase inverter.

Re: can anyone help with info on my jcm900

Appears to be a 2100. IIRC, there were a few runs of custom color 900s for Sam Ash & other chains through the mid 90s. Rare, hang onto it! Marshall switched to 5881s on the 900s around late '92 early 93. They're actually 30 watt 6L6GCs, true 5881s are 23 watt tubes and wouldn;t last long at the 900s plate voltages. Regardless, there's a big tonal difference between the early EL34 900s and the later ones. I have an early one but actually refer the later version as IMHO the tone is not as thin & shrill.

Re: can anyone help with info on my jcm900

I have a 97 High Gain Dual Reverb with 5881's its a killer
amp, alot more gain than the earlier ones, and a cleaner
clean channel, probably because of the 5881's

Re: can anyone help with info on my jcm900

I was going to mention that several dealers commissioned and sold limited editions as mentioned. Sam Ash, Guitar Center etc. make a practice of doing this on occasion which is why it may be difficult to trace info on it.
