DSL-401 Stock Speaker

It seams like many people replace the stock speaker with a Vintage 30. Isn't the Goldback speaker a good one? Who makes the stock speaker? Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Re: DSL-401 Stock Speaker

Its a Celestion and its well made, reliable and powerful, but many find it's somewhat harsh and lacking in bass, particuarly on the OD channels which already have a strong bass de-emphasis. Good for a screaming lead tone but not so good for a warm crunch.

It gets better if its broken in for a while at high volume. Also, you can add an EQ box in the loop to boost bass which helps.

But the V30 is alot better.

Re: DSL-401 Stock Speaker

Mine came with a Vintage 30 so i didnt know
what speaker came with them.
I have good bass response with the Vintage 30
though.

I put a Heritage G12H in mine to test it out it really sounded
great, but they cost alot. i just borrowed one from my
1960 cab and put it back

Re: DSL-401 Stock Speaker

I haver a Fender Blues Deluxe Re-issue that is known to have a heavy bass sound. Will the Vintage 30 give more of a open and bass sound?

Thanks

Re: DSL-401 Stock Speaker

I have a cab with 4 V30's and it does seem to smooth out my LP's some. They sound more balanced through that cab.
