Marshall ECC83 tubes

I have a marshall studio that has a couple
Marshall ECC83 tubes with white lettering.

Looks Like this on the tube..

Marshall
ECC 83

Are they a rebranded chinese or russian?
Any chance the are original for the amp?

Thanks.

Re: Marshall ECC83 tubes

if they're Marshall brand then it's pretty likely that they're originals. get some pix up please that'll help. I'm pretty sure mine were russin though as the power tubes matched the crappy Svetlanas to a T that i had.

How are you sure they are the crappy Svetlanas? Do the have punched plates like this:

or the welded/spot welded plates like this:

Alot of DSL amp came with the second picture el34s which and winged c tubes.

Working on photos, threw out back moving furniture.
If they are original they could be twenty years old.

i thought my pre's were russian,ty,and to be fair, they weren't crappy, they were sturdy and solid just "crappy" for what i do and like. i'm sure alot of people like them for their applications. They were just my PERSONAL least favorite out of all the tubes i've had. I even liked the GTEL34's that my old V3 had better though they were dry and tight which alot of classic oriented players would probably hate. now i'm in a middle ground as far as taste in tone. i want the "full package" i like classic tone and modern PLAYING which is why i got the DSL. Hoenstly now i have reached a point with regard to my playing that i can find a useable tone with any setup if needed which i like. I'm not amazing at all but, i am confident enough to know that i can usualy do what a song needs and to me that's important. I may have to re evaluate the Svets too though as at that point i LIKED my old V3 and now i wouldn't use it to save my life unless i were PAID to,lol.

Re: Marshall ECC83 tubes

Yeah i don't KNOW that they are any tube type other than ecc83/12ax7's and EL34's but, they really sound close to the svets i had and didn't care for at the time."crappy" is probably an unfair term.

Re: Marshall ECC83 tubes

Those Shuguang tubes have really high gain for a 12AX7. I loaded up 3 in my buddy's JCM 900 and it was pretty unholy.

Re: Marshall ECC83 tubes

Ei's were available in Marshall amps until 2002 when they ran out of stock on hand. My 1999 DSL401 came with all Ei tubes. Some big Marshall amps came from the factory with the Ei "nipple tip" EL34's. Those were some really nice bottles.

Re: Marshall ECC83 tubes

My 2009 DSL2000 has "marshall tubes".
I just changed the EL34 to Tungs and the amp
took a quantum leap in the quality and reaction
of the sound.
So ...
I'm starting to wonder if it's time to change the ECC83s.
To ... Golden Lions? Telefunkens? JAN-Philips? Mullards?

My 2009 DSL2000 came with all tubes labeled Marshall.
When I changed the output EL34s to Tungs
the amp took a quantum leap in sound quality and responsiveness.

So ...
Now I'm thinking of changing/upgrading the ECC83s.
