Re: is the dsl 100 OR 50 jcm 2000..
Hi Stock Hippy,
you are confusing this amp with another - the DSL is a great amp and has no known 'break down' problems. There are some TSL stories about bad foot switches and overheating - but not the DSL. This is one of the best. Cheers Brett |

Re: is the dsl 100 OR 50 jcm 2000..
I think the JCM2000 is the best value in a Marshall head right now. I picked up my DSL50 for $700 and I've seen them lower than that. Mine was made in 2000 and the only problem it's had was a blown HT fuse, and that was from me dicking around with it.

Re: is the dsl 100 OR 50 jcm 2000..
When I was researching before I bought my DSL, I read quite a few comments on different internet sites about the early DSL 401 combo's having some overheating problems. Anyone I talked to that actually owned one never said they had any problems however. I rarely saw anything bad said about the reliablilty of the DSL heads.

I have read reviews about some having problems with output transformers but I've not heard that from anyone who I know personally who has them, in fact it's just the opposite. They're said to be very reliable.
I'm banking on that because I just bought one myself! |

Howdy Y'all,
I've been playing these old Marshalls since 1966, and I think they really did hit the jack pot with the JCM 2000 DSL. I usually run it through an older Basket weave slant with 4X12 G12H (Heritage) Spkrs But I also like to use a home made 2x12 oversize closed-back cabinet with 2 G12M anniversary Spkrs. My first one was a JTM45 that I bought new at Arnold & Morgans in Dallas for $400.00. Then I went through I don't know how many Plexi's (50 and 100 watt) We used to get them used with the slant bottom for $400 to $500 for the top and Bottom both. I once had a Red 8X10 Bottom that I traded to Stevie for a 64 Super Reverb in 1970. It sounded great but was a pain in the ass to get in and out of my car. I kept the Red 50 Watt top. But I think the DSL is a better amp all around than the ones that are bringing a ga-jillion dollars now, cause of the incredible CRUNCH you can dial in with just a Les Paul! And you have to remember, the old Marshalls used get get hot and blow fuses, and get you kicked out of nightclubs and bars cause they were so LOUD! I had one TSL once and never had a problem with it, but they are too cluttered up for my tastes. So stick with the winner...The JCM 2000 DSL but get the 100 watt...you will be glad you did! Rev. Re: is the dsl 100 OR 50 jcm 2000..
Thanks Rev. Definitely reassuring to receive an endorsement from a long time player and one that has played through the top amps from back in the day for the amp I just bought.
After all was said and done, even though I could have afforded a JVM or whatever, I decided to go with the amp that still had significant ties to the past and still be a peer amongst it's contemporaries. |
