2100 SLX Impedence 16(4)

Iv'e been running my 2100 with the impedence selector at the 16(4) position and the output lead into the 4 ohms jack on my 1960A cab. What are the implications of this?

Thanks...

if your amp is still working fine then dont worry about it! i would plug into the 16 ohm jack on the cab though!

Undue stress on the output transformer which would lead to overheating, shorting, smoking, and can take a few other components with it. It's best to leave the amp and cab both set at 16 Ω.

Re: 2100 SLX Impedence 16(4)

Hey, thanks for the replies and the welcome to Marshallforum!

I started running my amp that way after I teched for a touring rock band once. The guitar player insisted I hooked up his Marshall (rental of course) with the impedence selector at 4 ohms and output leads to 2 cabs in the 4 ohm jack. He insisted it sounded better that way...It just dawned on me that hey the amps were rentals - who cares if they get smoked? (o;

I've tested both 16 and 4 ohm jacks on the cab for tone and maybe it's just me but I think it sounds better at 4 ohms. Do I need to get an amp tech to redo the 16 ohm switch?
