Re: AVT50 is busted

I'd at least get it checked out. Maybe it would be cheaper to fix than buying a new one.

Re: AVT50 is busted

Does the mains light come on? if not, the problem must be right at the mains input, maybe the mains fuse (hopefully), bad mains connection lead or socket (not too hard), or blown mains tranny (oh dear! - time for new amp)

Re: AVT50 is busted

Hi William, something like that happened to me,I had a 275 and it just wouldn start up.
The guy in the shop wouldn tell me whats wrong and just gave me a new one but he did say something to one of the other clerks which sounded like "the input is gone".I dunno if he was on about the guitar input or the power.are the fans turning on in yours?
And how do you get an avt 50 to go into a cab, arent they combo amps??!

Hey WR, if you think you can handle it (if you can't, get a technician)
WARNING: this amp has a floating ground, so don't ever use the chassis as a ground point!! You could blow your amp.

1. Check your main fuse F1, which should be between the mains input filter and the primary transformer windings (brown wire). Continue to step 2 if fuse ok. If not, make sure to replace it with a good quality fuse of the same value.

2. Check the voltages across ZD5 and ZD6 (zener diodes 5 and 6) on the main board. note: one zener will have positive voltage and one will have negative. Make sure you are getting around 15v across each. If not, check the transformer, from the black wire (ground), to each of the 2 red wires (secondary), to make sure you are getting power at the output of the transformer. You should be getting somewhere around 25VAC at each winding, I believe.

3. If you are getting voltages across ZD5 and ZD6, check for voltage at the negative side of D9, and the positive side of ZD6; it should be around +15V. Also, check for voltage from the positive side of D10 to the positive side of ZD6; it should be around -15V.
If all that is OK, I believe your amp should light up. I'll check this thread again, one of these days, to see how you did. Good luck.

Re: AVT50 is busted

WR - I currently have the same problem as you and I found out it is the fuse.

Peter - Do you know where I can get a replacement fuse? Will any 1.5A, 120V fuse that fits be okay or do I need to get something specific?

Thanks in advance!

Re: AVT50 is busted

Cheap fuses (ie, chinese) don't pop at the rated values. The values should be as rated, but try to get one made by Littelfuse or BUSS, or if you can find another reputable company. They cost more, but at least they pop at the rated values.
