Question jvm 205h and jvm205hcf

I am about to purchase a jvm 205h. In my research I have also looked at the jvm 205hcf.

Specs are given for the 205h as having:
5 preamp 12AX7s
2 EL34 power tubes.

The 205hcf specs list it as having:
Pre-amp valves: 4 x ECC83
Power amp valves: 1 x ECC83, 2 x EL34

From what I understand, the ECC83's and the 12ax7's are the same tube one is European and one U.S. I doubt that the 205hcf runs a ECC83 as a power tube and am thinking it just a messed up description of the specs.

I heard that the "cf" in 205hcf stands for carbon fiber which relates to the material used for the top of the amp head.

Are they the same head, with the only difference being a carbon fiber head?

Are there and any other differences between the two heads that I should be aware of?

Any thought, concerns, or jokes would be appreciated?

Current Gear:
Gibson LP Standard
Marshall DSL 100 (grrrr!)

They should be the exact same amp. The 12AX7/ECC83's are identical, just different designations for preamp tubes. No, they aren't power tubes, you're correct there.

I may be out of the loop here, but I am pretty sure the 205C is the Combo version, and the 205H is the Head-Only version. I haven't heard of any carbon fiber model, and I don't know why they'd do that....the Marshall Website corroborates this.
Marshall Amps :: JVM205C
I played through a 205 and liked it. If I were to get another modern Marshall, that'd be the one....although I'd get the head instead.

Hope this helps....and welcome aboard!

Re: jvm 205h and jvm205hcf

Thanks for your reply! Guitar center and Musicianfriends have both
a (jvm)205h and a 205hcf listed. Marshall's home page has nothing identified as a jcm 205HCF. Hmmmm! I may need more medication or perhaps less! Anywho, the 205h is on its way.

Re: jvm 205h and jvm205hcf

I can confirm that my local Marshall distributor has a JVM410H that is finished in a carbon fiber weave-like material, not unlike the Dave Mustaine 1960 cab, instead of the usual tolex. Wish I had waited a few months for that one, goes for SGD$1750, $200 less than the normal price.

Re: jvm 205h and jvm205hcf

CF stands indeed for carbon fiber finish, like the mustaine cabs... my opinion is that they should have included the same front clothing too, (so you can see those tubes from the front as well)
officially there is 1 ecc83 in the poweramp... it's the phase inverter, which belongs to the poweramp... that's what the fuzz is all about

Re: jvm 205h and jvm205hcf

Thanks agian for the info! I wish they would have been a bit more descriptive of their products. Both run the same tubes and as confirmed above they have the ECC83 listed as a power tube. Damn glad I planted that money tree. $1,399.00 is quite a bit of dough. I just hope things go smoothly when I turn it on. Sure dont want to deal with a return and/or a repair dilemma.
