TSL or JVM?

Hello, I was down my local music shop when I asked them if they had any TSL's I could see. And they didn't have any in stock, saying that the JVM's were like the 'new' TSL's.

Is there a difference between the 2?
Cheers
Jamie

Re: TSL or JVM?

oh yeah there is a difference! they are two totally amps in sound and features! the jvm 410 has more gain than any marshall in history and can sound like a jcm 800, a plexi, and has the best clean channel of any marshall available to date! (of course this is my opinion). i have the 410h head and absolutely loooooove it!!!!!

Re: TSL or JVM?

Note: the JVM does NOT use diode clipping -- it is all tube. I'm not so sure about the TSL.

Re: TSL or JVM?

JVM is an outstanding amp. It .looks intimidating at first but it is really just your normal amp times four seperate channels. The midi works great, with ad ons like a gt-10 or whatever. The only trouble is it needs a noise gate on some of the high gain channels. The ISP decimator works well. Give it a try, I think you will like it. You don't have to dime the gain, like alot of other amps. I like to set my gain down lower and then move my volume up to an acceptable level then increase my gain. It seems to cut down on some of the squeeling.

I dont know why but some people think
that Marshall Tube amps are using diodes
for distortion, and as far as i know thats
only in the MG series
I think the same person claiming the DSL 401 was
only a Hybrid

Re: TSL or JVM?

I just got a JVM 210H and love it. I traded in my TSL 100 to get it and have had no regrets. This amp does have a bit more white noise than the TSL but it hasn't been a real problem for me.

NO FX NEEDED!!!!

Re: TSL or JVM?

Tried out both amps the other day and both are I must say, pretty stunning bits of amping machinery
I have to say though, the JVM has one hell of a bite on the gain and a sweet clean channel, plus a lot of extra features.
I think I know what amp I shall be getting now

Re: TSL or JVM?

Hey stryker59, does your JVM have to be cranked hard to get good gain tone? I would like to use it in my back shed at home (close neighbours) as well as at gigs.
Also, do you find it is a noisy amp, ie lots of hum and fuzz when not playing?

I think you could get a HotPlate for this, or the Marshall Powerbreak

there are good tones in this amp that you can get without having to crank it up.....however it is still a tube amp and i think it sounds its best cranked, so i use the thd hotplate!
as for the noise, it does have some white noise the louder you get it and the high gain is gonna be noisy...nature of the beast...i run a noisegate for this and it helps....

Re: TSL or JVM?

ISP Decimator G-string for the win against the high gain noise.
