Veteran 30s

so whats the general low down on these Veteran 30s. it says there just like the real vintage 30s but without the mid spike. now in my imagination that would be the ideal speaker, cause i like the dynamics of the speaker, bass, treble, just dont really care for the mid spike. mine are broken in too, still doesnt really help my ears much.

anyone got these and can verify that they indeed are smoother in the mids.
if so im buying some and ditching my real celestions.

Re: Veteran 30s

In my experience with guitar speakers I will tell you that they all have a midrange spike. I have looked at hundreds of frequency charts for guitar speakers and the spike is there.

Now with that being said, you are not going to find a smooth, controlled guitar speaker unless you use an Eminence Delta Pro IIA. This speaker has a very flat frequency response. It was designed for PA but a lot of guitarist's use them because they are so creamy sounding.

Now the other thing is that you can reduce the effects of the mid spike by making it smaller or more compressed. I think this is what they did with the Vet 30's. They were able to compress the mid spiking to some degree and it made it smoother sounding.

That's my two cents.

I have 2 Veteran 30's in my 1960 cab for my JCM 900. I love them. They are paired with 2 G12T-75's
