Bring It!

Lets see YOU in action playing on your Marshall full stack or half stack. Pick your best Youtube video and attach a link so we all can see you play your Marshall. Please tell us the amp model and year along with the speaker model(s) you are using and any effect pedals you used. It would also be nice if you can tell us the type of guitar and pickups and the video camera you used and the way you captured the sound (DAW, built in mic, etc.) Please no comments on or critiques of the playing of others though. Lets just enjoy the many tones available with the different amp models!

Re: Bring It!

No our band manager Bill Deker paid for it all and when
the band split up i lost my amps, the stuff all ended up
in the band Mickey-Ratt and later called Ratt.
The bass amp that used to be Anthony's was really a loud
bass amp. The Plexi was really good also, had alot more power
than a normal plexi i think all the transformers were oversized
in it.
The coolest thing about the amps were the VH logos on the
backs and on the travel cases.

Re: Bring It!

Here is the first clip I have put on YouTube. The sound is horrible because it is just through a webcam mike and the recording level was set for speaking and not a singing Marshall. It is a 2004 DSL50 played through a brand new Avatar Vintage 4x12 cabinet with Celestion V30's. The guitar is a 2001 Fender American Deluxe Ash Strat HSS. It is plugged straight in. My amp settings are in the details of the clip.

Re: Bring It!

Wow thats really great! I love the Strat! I have the DSL 50 too and am very happy with it. The web cam is OK as it sounds fine for You Tube, we used to even use cell phones and digital cameras without sound in our early videos, then tried to strip the sound in. I got an inexpensive Sony with a built-in mic now. The Avatar is basically very similar to my Marshall 1960BV which has Vintage 30s. The Hellatones in that are (as I am sure you already know) - Celestion Vintage 30s that have been broken in for 15 hours and with a new sticker applied to it that says "Hellatone" I bought a couple myself when I was upgrading my AVT Stack. I wanted to try something different, so in one cab ( higher DB 102-3 ) I Put 2 Eminence Wizards, a Gouvenor, and a Private Jack (I traded away that one, but it was not because I did not like it) in the other ( lower DB 100-1 ) I had two Hellatones and 2 Eminence Tonespotters and I still have it with an AVT 50 H head.

Re: Bring It!

When I envisioned this thread, I thought that there would be plenty of Marshall amp videos by forum members out there, just waiting to post their equipment in action with amp models like Plexis, Super Leads, JMP, JCM, JVM, Vintage Moderns, Bluesbreakers, etc. and with all the different speaker combinations that would have been great to compare in one place just by clicking on the links. The wildest amp I ever heard was the Hendrix Full Stack and I remember years ago going to concerts with giant walls of Marshalls. I have a true interest in guitars and equipment, and currently own the two different Marshall half stacks as discussed (and a Dr. Z Maz Jr. 18 watt combo), but am NOT a competent guitar player myself, (especially for You Tube), and I have the same DSL amp as you do, the only difference would be in the tubes (Winged C Power Tubes and 12ax7 EH & EI Preamps) I do have a young son who is in training though, please accept these links and my appreciation and friendship... Thanks man! Hopefully I'll get some better recordings in there soon, I haven't got internet hooked up at my new house yet but once I do I'll post some new stuff. I just received my new tubes for the Jubilee today, quad of JJ E34L's and trio of ECC83S's w/ one balanced for the phase inverter, so once I get them installed I'll post again

Re: Bring It!

It is great to have a job you like. Wake boarding sounds really cool. I had to struggle and do lot of different things along the way just to keep doing what I liked. I am a fine artist and it was very hard just to survive as one. My son is the musician and I study and learn about all the guitar equipment. Feel free to check out a few of my art works and vote on any you like...

Holy Crap you are an fantastic artist!
I started out an artist myself as a kid and through
HS, and a semester of college then hit the road
with a band, and my art got put on the shelf.
I did get to work for Disney one year as a Cell
painter, and did art on the side for a Shakespearian
Festival in Oregon.

Wow what a sad, but interesting story. I still remember when Ratt came out I had one of their first albums (it was a promo) with white rats crawling around a girls feet and she was wearing fish net stockings. That must have been around 1984? I also am so old as to remember remember when Van Halen came out. I believe it was 1978 and I was in college and this guy on campus blasted it out of the tower in Albany over the whole quad. We knew right then and there it was special.

I feel it is better than a MG because it is a hybrid with a 12ax7 preamp tube and I have had two of them (and still have one left). They are dependable, but for a little more see if you can find a slightly used DSL 50 all tube head you will get more headroom and a warmer tone.

I watched your video and you were really good back then too!

The Ms vs. the Hs a/b was a nice video to hear the difference. I personally liked the way the Hs sounded on the video, but you were recommending a combination right?
Did you ever try the G12H70 the 70th Anniversary speaker? It is cheaper than the real Hs and I have a couple of them. One came pre-installed inside the Dr. Z and the other I bought as a Hellatone 30 watt. Your 401 was great too, so you swapped out the speaker and what tubes were you using in that one?

Re: Bring It!

The combination is the ideal setup but yea the H's sound the best
of any speaker i have ever used
The Anniversary H is nothing like the Heritiage H for sound
the Anniversary is a combination of a greenback and V-30
which isnt bad either, but doesnt have the syrupy low end
of the Heritiage H, but they sound great to.
Problem is the price on the Heritiage H's but they have some
scratch n dent ones for $164 at Musicians Freind right now
which is almost $60 off.

The 401 uses EL84 power tubes and ECC83's like all other
marshalls, i bought JJ' tubes for it which is recomended for
the best sound. and i have a V-30 speaker

I love both amps both have thier pluses

Re: Bring It!

I put JJ E34L's in my Jubilee yesterday, I don't think I've ever sat down and played guitar so long in my life. I was literally laughing out loud I was in such a 'jubilant' state of mind.

Whoo hoo!!!

Re: Bring It!

I added a couple new clips to Youtube. Much better sound this time.

The first is one verse from a song I did in the eighties...and sounds very eightyish...
The other is a Dylan cover using the crunch channel and trying to use soft playing to get the great tube sound to match the song.
