I've heard some people say the AVT sucks, or isn't so great. Then I tried it for myself being the skeptic I am. The AVT has got good tone and if you can't make it sing... it's not the amp. Heck, BB King's got an ALL SS amp he uses. To respond to your post, it's by no means a beginners amp looking for a Marshall, there are tons of tube amp enthusiasts who love the AVT.

Maybe you got a bad tube. The wc is made to have more gain than the wa and wb.

Re: Marshall 12ax7

i got the 12ax7wc by sovtek and its bright as hells and lots of gain i havent tried the the wb the thiing is its missing the lows but i think its my amp JCM 900 4100 thats what peps are saying the clean tone is nice also just need more on the lows, they suggested to get an eq hooked up to the loop. I ordered some JJs preamp High gain and well see if theres a difference.

AVT50's are good amps, and a great value for the $$s. Behave a lot like an all-tube amp. Excellent clean channel. The dirty channel is essentially the clean channel, with an integrated distortion pedal, and seperate controls. Lots of potential for modification too! Check out my thread: AVT50 Mods:
