they are decent amps for practice but they are entry level marshalls and they sound like it. is your budget at this level or or you willing to spend a little more?

Re: Is MG10CD Marshall Sucks????

I agree with stryker. I think that, for a small cheap practice amp, they have quite a good clean channel, but I find the OD channel to be too high-gain fizzy.

I still use mine however, for practice when I don't want to fire up my larger amp.

Heres some things that I do:

1. To get a good sound, I put it on the floor by a wall, which builds up the bass and gets the high treble out of line with my ears.

2. On OD, its hard to find a slight crunch sound without going instantly into hair-metal mayhem. If find that OD gain at 1, and then turn down the guitar volume gets me better control.

3. An good overdrive pedal fed into the clean channel sounds much better than the amps OD. I recommend a Bad Monkey by Digitech, for its smooth classic crunch, great build quality and very low price. Its a piece of kit that will enhance that little MG, and also be very useful for other amps later.

4. I wired a jack socket to the back of mine that allows an extension speaker to be plugged in, cutting out the internal one. Its amazing how good that 10W Mg sounds through a 4x12!

John

ps - hello BTW, my first post here

Re: Is MG10CD Marshall Sucks????

I had one for a while. Clean is amazing, leadchannel is perhaps nice for deathmetalpeople, dunno that, i couldn't find a decent use for it.
One great trick i found out later (I'd sold the mg10 by then) when i was using a Pignose.
When you place the pignose is a bucket (empty of course) you get a lot more base. Mighht work with an MG10 as well, give a bucket large enough.
