No, stupid would have been if you got rid of the 6100. You didnt so we will call it an experiment.

Re: All new owners of 6100's...welcome to the dark side

I haven't played a 6100 in person but I have to say all the clips I've seen/heard are very good. But guys I don't even care cause I want a plexi and I'm keep'n the DSL to pass on to my kids or their kids. Besides my play'n sounds the same on all 3 of my amps. Awesome! So its me that makes an amp sound good not the amp itself...

Ok I'm done lying for now. I've got more in store for later though...

Coffee anyone?

I tend to agree with the playing part. But there is a difference in tone between the 6100 and DSL. I like the 6100 much better. But I like that 80's British tone. And the DSL cant deliver that. So it feel short for my taste.

Me! haha but it wasn't really fair because of how old the preamp tubes were.

15 yr old preamps will give you a bad impression of any amp. Did you trade for that amp on UG or Harmony? I remember seeing your post on it. I met you over there first.

Someone's going to get wise of our two threads here LFH, and start one about Plexi's. It will be called "Bow to the Plexi", and the first post will simply be: "Plexi. 'Nuff Said." And they will be right. Can't argue with all that history. And there will be NO replies.

I traded a Randall V2 ninja head for the 6100 on harmony-central. I had never heard of a 6100 at the time and didn't even know what the difference between EL34/6L6 was! Turns out I got a pretty damn good deal haha What is your name on harmony-central?

Maybe one day but all the fun is in our 2 threads.
Why did you create yours in the Backstage? I posted there once early on and forgot how to get back there until 5 (or so) days ago

Initially it was just to announce the Conspiracy's social group, so I didn't put it in the Amp section to avoid clutter.

Hmm I dunno that I've seen you there too much. Anyway, I do agree I got a good deal there but there is something appealing to me about the Randall tone for metal. That amp did sound damn good for my style of music. Totally different than the 6100 obviously haha

I think we are friends over there. I am interested in the Randall Lynch Box.

If you were only going to play metal, why would you not go with a Randall, or a Triple Rec? Agree with you on that as far as straight up metal goes.

You could add a Peavey 6505+ to that list.

Zakk Wylde is my favorite player, but I do generally gravitate toward metal (ok...always). I am deeply deeply considering an RM100 right now. Not the Lynch Box, but close.

I agree out of the box. I had to have mine tweaked after having it for some time and finding I wanted some changes. Like I said I can't honestly judge a 6100 cause I haven't played one. Until then I'm just joining in a presumption and defending my DSL bro's thumbing my nose and farting in your direction.

Didn't Satriani use a 6100 early on? Knowing him though he just used the clean channel with pedals hehe. Wasting all that good Marshall OD tone in an amp just ain't right.

True. And the Mode Four like Mann said. I railed on one of those at GC not long after they came out and was impressed with its' ability for metal. No wonder Daren Malakian used it on the Toxicity album.

That's it man! I've never played a Mode Four. Got offered a Mode Four and BC rich NJ deluxe V for trade on my DSL but I need the cash. I think I would like a Mode Four a lot; I love the Randall. It slayed for metal but also broke down on me 3 times in 2 months, no lie. Twice on gig days!!! Big no-no. Tonally, I was most satisfied with it (especially with the graphic EQ) but I needed reliability.

It's a tube preamp with a SS power section, but I would have gotten one if I were into metal. It's actually two separate, two-channel amps in the same box, so you've got four options. They can be had for much cheaper now.

Satch did use it and tour with it early on. I think he did use pedals on the clean too. Now I hear he is on to the JVM
