Re: All new owners of 6100's...welcome to the dark side
I am a huge Slash fan. I have always been a singer. When AFD came out I had never picked up a guitar but I knew there was something about his playing. I picked up playing drums when I was 16. I remained a singer til I was 24 or so. At 35 (6 years ago) I wanted to do something just for me. I always found the solo work on November Rain moving. There are times in our musical lives that a series of notes played in a certain manner that speak to us on a profoundly deep level. Those solos express a mood that you cant create on drums, piano ect. I dig Slash for what he inspired in me.

My live rig at tonight's gig... crappy cell phone makes crappy pics if not in broad daylight..
Anyway, that's a blue EL34-equipped 6100 sitting on top of a VHT cab.

Re: All new owners of 6100's...welcome to the dark side
yeah turns out it had stock preamp tubes and I just never checked haha I'm sure that had something to do with it. I'm still very very satisfied with the DSL and I know rjohns1 is making better use of its many features than I ever would have. My rig goes like this: DSL plugged into Monster 2500 power conditioner, into a Cool Cat OD (which I don't even really need with the DSL, did very much so with the 6100), into a Zakk Wylde wah, into my guitar with EMG's. Simple simple. Rjohns1 has an entire midi setup and uses all three channels so it was really just a smart trade for both of us ya know?

Yeah that's a good businessman! haha Feel free to use my real name, Hunter, on here by the way. It's kind of weird being referred to as Chuck, not even sure why I ever picked this name

Re: All new owners of 6100's...welcome to the dark side
hey dudes, I've been thinking about getting a MXR M-108 EQ Pedal to use with my 6100LM. Not sure if I need an extra eq as the amp sounds pretty killer on its own.i bought a proco turbo rat for an extra bit of gain boost as i heard a lot of metal guys use these with their marshalls (tho im not sure it really enhances the 6100LM sound)
anyway, im always up for trying something new if it will help get me closer to total sonic nirvana. Im playing chuggy thrash/death metal with also a fair amount of clean guitar parts. So what do you guys think? Worth getting or not going to add much that isnt already there? |

Here's mine.
![]() I have installed a new Logo on the cab since. I need to set it up again properly and take another pic. And yes, that is the 1959RR behind it.

Fuzz is pretty cool. Don't really need it at band volumes though.

Re: All new owners of 6100's...welcome to the dark side
I have been thinking of adding a chorus and a delay (among other things). I think back to the days when I had pedals and Im just not sure I want to deal with all that bull shit again.

I've only had her since the summer. She's been around the block for sure! She's getting a full re-tube this year. The JJs the last owner put in just don't cut it for me.

1. get a powered pedalboard (6 slots) 2. get good connecting cables 3. get single pedals that inspire you Don't bother with batteries or numerous power supplies. I've gone from 8+ pedals down to 3 (+ tuner, but one of them is a loop pedal that isn't used for gigs). But really, the 1 power supply is the biggest thing. My SKB board hold and powers all my pedals and came with a nice carrying case. The pedals live on it, and they approve!

Re: All new owners of 6100's...welcome to the dark side
Hi everyone, been on the dark side for 16 years, yup...an original owner!!!
Been kind of a mixed blessing, but finally got it comin' around. Mine's a straight 6100, with 5881's. Sounds great, but still looking for that true Plexi sound, while mine is close (dime everything and attenuate) there's still something missing, maybe it's the EL34's. Anywho, I still love mine. Any one out there know how to get rid of the papery sound that I sometimes get???? |
