The Song Remains the same cabinets? Checkered or Basket weave type with Celestion 30s

Trying to set up my rig in a vintage way. What type of angled cabinet did Jimmy Page used in 1972- 1973 Madison Square Garden concerts? Was it checkered or basket weave? I believe the speakers were Vintage 30īs. Anyone has pictures to share?

No they were NOT Vintage 30s...Celestion didn't even make the V30 until around 85/86.

The speakers were G12H-30s (not the same speaker as a V30...the V30 is its own speaker and was Marshall's attempt at a modern day Alnico speaker in the 80s...in no way shape or form is it or was it ever even closely related to the H-30s) and they were ones made prior to '74. The cloth was checkerboard if memory serves me right.

Here's a clip of a 100 watt Super Lead through a Marshall Power Brake attenuator and a '73 straight cab loaded with the original '73 G12H-30s doing Black Dog with a Les Paul loaded w/EMG pickups. Amp is flat out dimed on every knob. Audio was taken from a vid-cam but...AMAZINGLY close to TSRTS.

Its not checkerboard grillcloth, its salt and pepper basketweave grillcloth. I already ordered a 1996 1987x reissue. Now I need to get that JCM900 straight 4 X 12 cab in shape.

What materials should i purchase besides 1 yard of Salt and pepper basketweave grillcloth?

marshall grill cloth salt pepper

Should I purchase white piping or these cabinets do not need piping?

Piping is a purely cosmetic thing...buyer's choice.

If you want the old pre-'74 G12H-30 sound, they're kinda pricey ($179 a pop) but I would seriously look into the Scumback H55s. These are a very close repro of the pre-74 G12H-30 with the Pulsonic cones. You can find them at -
