Most appropiate cab for Marshall 1987x reissue

I am planning on purchasing a 1987x 50watter, and have an offer of US$275.00 for a JCM900 4 X 12 speaker straight cabinet. Should I settle for this cabinet or buy an angled 1960 TV cabinet? Any recommendations

That's a decision only you can make. Take your head to a music shop that has those cabs and try it out through the cabs...let your ears do the talkin'.

For future reference, please do not repost the same questions in every single forum. It sucks up bandwidth and clouds up the boards.

If you have a question regarding speakers, post it in the Cabinets & Speakers forum.

If you have a question about amps, post it in the Marshall Amps forum.

If you're having a problem with your amp, post it in The Workbench forum.

If you're not getting responses, it's more than likely because nobody has the answer, not because nobody saw the post.

Questions regarding what gear you should purchase are questions you yourself can only answer by finding someone who owns the gear you're curious about or finding a music store that stocks that particular piece of gear, going down and trying it out for yourself. Tone is very subjective...everyone has differing opinions as to what "great tone" is and everyone's opinions are correct. The trick is to purchase gear that you yourself like the sound of...not what everyone else thinks sounds good. You'll only be happy if it sounds good to you, and only your ears can tell you what your ears like.

Re: Most appropiate cab for Marshall 1987x reissue

I was right - I have read this somewhere else...

So here is the cut&paste answer (again)...

Hi,

with a non-master 1987 I would prefer a vintage type 4x12 with 25Watt speakers. I have had a jcm900A+B stack and for years I would not try anything else - until I had the chance to play my amp with a pal's 1960AX box - wow - total authentic woody sounds - what a great distortion and response too!

I use my jcm900A box with my DSL and I bought a 1960AX box to use with my 1987 amp.

ps. my pals 1960AX was older and well built. My 1960AX looks & sounds good, but they are very cheaply/poorly built - in China perhaps?

Cheers Brett
