Re: What's the best transformer type into early 100W?

Hi.

IMHO the only imaginable option for a blown transformer, be that a PT or OT, for a vintage amp is having the original rewound.

Bobbins are rather easy to recreate, so is the wire, but recreating the iron is impossible.

The only time that wouldn't be possible would be if the transformer have been heated (smoking) so badly that the iron is toast. OR, if the transformer is of welded construction.

If the original sound is not what You're after, then it won't matter much which transformer You slap in there obviously.

Regards
Sam

Rewinding a transformer is really the same as getting a new one. Nothing is really reusable but the case once it's blown.

Word on the street is that Marstran makes excellent replacement transformer. I have a pair of Heyboers in my clone and they also sound fantastic.

no,you don't understood.
the question is:
What was the best between earliest vintage plexies which fitted old Drakes and others ones equipped with Dagnalls types.
What was the best beetwen them?
Drakes or Dagnalls?

Oh! I think people seem to prefer the Dagnalls.

But,I heard a lot of people about Drakes were the best in quality and reliability and they can support more voltages...is it true?
with Dagnall employment the voltages were lowered, weren't they?think about early JTM45/100s with Drakes compare with Superleads or bass with Dagnalls
