Re: Marshall plexi what year ?
If you see the serial number side on the back panel is gone so I hope some one can date it from the parts.

Re: Marshall plexi what year ?
I think it is a really hacked up 1959 Metal Panel from the early '70s. This is just an educated guess but I can tell that it is at least earlier then 1972 because of the PTP (point to point) wiring. Looks like it has a master volume mod but the inside doesn't look as bad as the out side.

Re: Marshall plexi what year ?
IT WAS MODIFIED BY TIM CASWELL SOME YEARS AGO. 1967-69? MARSHALL PLEXI TREMOLO. This is what I'm told.

Re: Marshall plexi what year ?
It's a plexi tremolo model, from about 1968 or so. It's had a big power transformer burnout at some point, judging from the brown gunk under the chassis, but the PT in there now is thankfully the right kind/era.

Re: Marshall plexi what year ?
The layout of the amp is pre '69. Probably late '67 or early '68.
That brown gunk could also come from a blown filtercap. Yes, they can explode, and that is what I belive happend to one of my amps, and there is threads about an exploding filtercap in an original JTM-45. That means that the PT can be original, if it's nothing else that tell us that it is changed |

Re: Marshall plexi what year ?
The amp is an USA export amp. That's why it has a polarity switch.
I don't think the indicator light is original, and there is a lot of things done to your amp. I thought you should have a plexi replacement backplate. This amp should have plexiglass front and back. You can get almost all parts to your amp, and you can get some of them original, and some as repro parts. Metro amp makes very good Plexi replicas, and they know all about every part you'll need. Plexi Palace also have some great parts for old Marshalls. You should ask them about what you should do to your amp. A lot of guys there have parts, and know where to get them. You should ask for help at the Metro Amp forum, or the forum at Plexi Palace. |
