Plexi questions
Greetings-
Is the big 100 watt plexi that you hear so much about the JMP 1959? I thought the plexiglass plate thing ended in the late '60s before the JMPs which would make it a JTM 100 I think. Which brings me to my next question. Is a JTM 100 and a JTM 45/100 the same thing? If not, what is the difference? and also, if I have the transformers of a 100 watt JCM 800(4103 combo to be exact), could I hook them up to a plexi style board and get a "pretty much" plexi super lead? Would this damage something? |

Re: Plexi questions
hi,
1) In 1965 the first (prototype and production) 100W amps (model 1959) were constructed using two 50W output transformers. Shortly later 100W output transformers were used. The first 100W Lead and Bass models used left over JTM45 panels (until some time in 1966). In the first half of 1967 the JTM panels were dropped all together and the JMP panels were introduced. 2) As far as I know the JTM45/100 is a reproduction of very early models from the late 1960's with KT88 valves - in other words a hybrid - many claim Hendrix had such amps but there was no official series and he probably mostly used the JMT100 / JMP 1959 amps. i am sure a Hendrix boffin would know this... 3) I am sure you could use that original transformer for a kit - whereas I recommend you make sure it has the right ratings etc... Cheers brett |

Re: Plexi questions
The first 100w Marshalls were made in Nov. 65. They had two output transformers, because no 100w OT were on the marked.
These were protypes of the Marshall 100w. These models used the JTM-45 frontpanel, because no new frontspanels were available when the production started. New frontpanel was made for the Super PA only.(but they used the backpanel from the model 1963 PA) These 100w dual OT were made as: JTM-45/100 Super Lead 1959 JTM-45/100 Super Bass 1992 JTM-45/100 Super Tremolo T1959 JTM 100 Super PA 1968 All models had KT66 tubes 100w OT's were delivered in Nov. '65 and the normal production started. The JTM-45/100 then got new OT's and changed to EL34. Models then changed to JMT "reverse logo", and then to the JMP model mid. '67. The metal frontpanels took over for the plexipanels mid '69 |
