Marshall 100w Super Bass SB/A 10751 Value?

Hello all,

Iv'e just dug out my old super bass and was wondering if anyone here could help me date and value it?

I'll be sad to get rid of her, but i'd much prefer someone else gets some fun out of it.

Photos here

Thanks for any help.
Jez.

I would say at least $3,000.00 if it is an all original '69 Super Bass

It's hard to guess the value without seeing the guts and transformers. Do you have any more pics?

$3000 :O

Sounds good although i'm inclined to believe its a 1973 after looking through some other posts.

Everything inside is original, still works and sounds amazing.

Will post some pic's of the guts later when the Mrs's remembers where she's put the camera >_>

Actually with that Serial Number it is probably a '68 if I was you I would never sell it !!! You would have to kill me to take my 1970 Super Lead from me

Re: Marshall 100w Super Bass SB/A 10751 Value?

How much would you sell it for, can you ship it to Seattle ? Can you take it out of the case (4 #2 Phillips Screws on back panel, 4 #1 Phillips Screws on the bottom) and take pictures of the internals, also there should be a tag inside with the date it was built !!! If it looks good inside and it is a '68, or '69 I will give you $2,000 US for it, and pay for shipping and insurance PM me ps be careful if it has been turned on recently there could be over 400 Vollts DC charge on the filter caps so dont touch anything inside, also if it has a lay down Power Transformer you can damage the power tubes if you turn it upside down safest to remove the tubes first to take pics of the Circuit Board, I always use 2 Plastic Milk Bottle Crates also that Chassis will be way heavier on one side than the other I mostly play Vintage Spec Single coil Strats, the Super Bass is more Strat friendly than the Super Lead IMHO more like the JTM 45 and the 5F6A Tweed Fender Bassman )

Re: Marshall 100w Super Bass SB/A 10751 Value?

Finally found the camera!

Gave it a quick dusting, i couldn't spot a date tag though. The two right hand valves were replaced in 1989, and the case hasn't been opened since.

Internal Photos Here

p.s. Wouldn't even begin to know how to ship this to Seattle haha

Looks like a nice mostly original '69 Super Bass to me.

Re: Marshall 100w Super Bass SB/A 10751 Value?

The amp seems to fall into the "Version 8" category on this page:
http://folk.ntnu.no/roef/JTM100.html

All the filter caps are on top of the chassis so it's probably made between late '68 and mid '69. Also the slider type bias trimmer was used around the same time. I have a late '68 50-watt plexi with a similar bias slider.

The amp is worth quite a bit for sure.

Thats F'king Excellent if true

Just for anyone who's interested, i've gigged it at the Forum, Kentish Town, London. The 100 Club, Oxford Street, London. As well as Stonehenge and many festivals elsewhere.

Its a shame to get rid of her but it's no use to me now, i've had my fun

Re: Marshall 100w Super Bass SB/A 10751 Value?

One of the four tall power tubes (the one with a clear, almost transparent top) is near-dead, but that's not a problem with the amp itself. I'm sure the power tube quartet isn't that well matched or biased anyway so it would be advisable to purchase a new matched quad and get the thing overhauled and biased. After that it'll be a great amp for many years of hard rocking. I'm sure you'll regret selling it if you let go of her though...

Re: Marshall 100w Super Bass SB/A 10751 Value?

I'm sure i will, but it's due time someone else got some fun out of her.

Are there any guides on re-biasing the tubes once replaced? With a degree in electronic engineering i'd prefer to do the servicing myself if possible.

But I'm open to offers, with or without the replaced tubes.

Re: Marshall 100w Super Bass SB/A 10751 Value?

Randall Aiken has biased several amps to this day, reportedly with at least moderate success. His website might be worth checking out:

Re: Marshall 100w Super Bass SB/A 10751 Value?

Cheers, i've just skim read the article and have all the kit to do it if needs be. But ill leave it as it is unless someone requests it before sale.

Will probably list her on ebay unless anyone here is interested?

Thanks again for the help.

You can get more money for her, but you may not find a better home, I am not a collector so I will have to change the parts necessary to make her playable !!! I do not gig either !! My 1970 Super Lead needs Company

Sorry for the slow response, i am happy with that offer, i've just never sent anything this big half way across the world. Do you have any suggestions on packaging this thing up safely?

Re: Marshall 100w Super Bass SB/A 10751 Value?

Take the tubes out wrap them with paper then crumple up pages of newspaper into little balls and fill the inside of the amp with them and put the tubes in there so they will be cushioned by the paper balls until the inside of the amp is full ( Exactly the same as packing drinking glasses when you move ) and the tubes are well protected you can also wrap the power cord in paper and stick it in there then put the back on the amp wrap the amp in plastic bubble wrap and find a box to put it in. Then weigh it and call UPS and get a price for shipping with insurance and I will send you the money, Pay Pal is best for both of us it is free to get an account if you don't have one.

I would use large bubble wrap instead of paper, and stuff the inside of the head box until you almost can't screw the back on. You want NO movement inside there.

Cheers!

Re: Marshall 100w Super Bass SB/A 10751 Value?

Hey Clammy should he ship the tubes in a separate package ? He is in the UK so I am sure it will cost an arm a leg, a nut, and my only Daughter to ship it !!!! PS, Don't tell Lemmy I finally saw Motorhead at Mayhem on July 3 he slayed not 1 but 2 Super Bass Stacks !!!!!! Lemmy is God !!!! \m/> <\m/ Duff McKagen came out and Rocked a song with Motorhead, and after that Slayer Destroyed they rocked all the good stuff !!! And then Slipknot was totally Off The Hook as usual !!! Any shipping pointers you can give the OP would be greatly appreciated and next time you come to Seattle we can Jam the axes

What's with the weird wires going to what was the Ohm Selector ? They are covered and have shrink tube on them - Spliced ?
One Power Tube Socket Replaced - Arcing ?

If in good shape , it would be worth $3500 easy.

Re: Marshall 100w Super Bass SB/A 10751 Value?

I must admit, I've been selling this amp on my dad's behalf, as he's not exactly internet savy. After showing him this thread, and that it's had over 500 views (which he's amazed by) i think he's having second thoughts of selling it. He knew it'd be worth a bit, but i dont think he realised how rare it was. Very sorry yladrd61, you'll be the first to know if he decides to sell. I'll keep you posted.

Yes let me know if he changes his mind !!!! , if you and your dad plan to use this amp it would be a good idea to have it checked over by a competent amplifier tech, and it would be a good idea to have all the Electrolytic Capacitors (Filter, and Bias) replaced. Especially the big filter cans on the top. The ones I replaced on my 1970 were so dried out they sounded like they were full of gravel when you shook them !!!! Keep all the old parts though. Also the older 2 power tubes look like they have high time on them !!

Re: Marshall 100w Super Bass SB/A 10751 Value?

so .....this is where superbass SB/A 10751 ended up.
I installed a period correct impedance selector barrel to replace the incorrect and unsightly red one.
I also replaced the filter caps and installed new power tubes in the amp put a bright cap on vol 1.
both transformers and choke are original and the amp sounds superb its one best plexis Ive ever owned or heard
