For many years I have run a "dirty" 50 watt EL34 equipped JMP in parallel with a "clean" 6550 100 watt JMP with various setting arranged via GCX Ground Control. Several sounds require an overdrive pedal into the "clean" amp to match the crunch of the "dirty" amp. Nothing has been satisfactory. So... although this is somewhat subjective, what pedals might you reccomend to emulate the crunch of the 50 watt? (or even the crunch of a 6550 100 watt - that can be a nice blend as well) Any winners?

Re: Best pedal to emulate el34 50 watt JMP?
The famed JMP cannot be simulated or emulated. The tube screamer or any of the various flavor modeling systems that provide Overdrive get the "Marshall" tone quite well. POD 2.0 comes to mind. Seriously there is a magic about these amps that there is no pedal ever made can duplicate. Just save your money (10 pedals worth at $100ea=$1000) and you get the real deal. Believe me that's the best $1000 any guitar player will ever spend and worth more than any 10 pedals in the world. I have two of them and I have bought and sold a triple recto and two 5150's. The tone is in the Power section and the feedback loop of the amps Presence control technically which pedals can't do. Pre 77' only for the real tone stack and proper caps.

Did you even read the post? Which part of 50 watt and 100 watt JMP did you not read as "the real deal". I have used them for 30 years WITHOUT pedals, hence my need to ask about pedals!

Re: Best pedal to emulate el34 50 watt JMP?
I have always been disappointed in most OD and Dist. pedals and luckily have never really needed them. (I do used a Boss EQ-7) as a clean boost for the dirty amp. The issue is: that I love the very clean setting and massive headroom of the 100 watt (6550s) in parallel with the crunch of the 50 watt (EL34s) but for a huge crunch I would like to drive the clean head with an OD pedal. (it's set to clean for a clean boost to be effective) I have found the RAT pedal to be decent but lacking in response, DS-1 too 80's sounding, a Sparkle Drive has it's merits but I just wondered if the is something out there that has gained a reputation for having the tone and feel of a vintage tube amp. They are certainly plenty that claim that. I've got my eye on the TC Elect. VPD -1 Any thoughts?

Never felt a pedal thru a Marshall was worthwhile. Although Gary Moore with an old Marshall Bluesbreaker pedal did well.
For me a DAM Red Rooster Treble Boost is the best. |

Re: Best pedal to emulate el34 50 watt JMP?
I have not found a pedal that equals the dirty 50 watt Marshall sound. Some are sort of close, like I think the Fulltone OCD works pretty nicely since it responds somewhat to attack and guitar volume like you might expect from an amp, but it only sounds good if you don't A-B it with the real thing.
