Hi all,
Glad I found this forum, because maybe you learned Marshall users can help me out. I'm a tech/roadie for my buddy, who owns (among others) a late 60's Marshall 100 Watt amp. He was using it at a gig, and I noticed the power cord was starting to fray where it plugs into the wall. I tried to be delicate, but of course, when I went to plug it into the wall, it gave off a giant spark, shocked the living **** out of me, and now the cord is fried. After he verbally berated me, he told me it's my job to find a replacement cord for it. The problem is where the cord plugs into the back of the head with a strange circular adapter (instead of hard-wired in) that I've never seen before. He doesn't know the name, but thought it was something like a Belgian or Belgium power cord. He said they were used sometimes when this head was made "back in the day." Because we are unable to remember the name of the cord, of course I am unable to find a replacement for it. Can anybody tell me the name of this strange power cord (with the circular adapter that plugs into the back of the head instead of it being hard-wired like other heads we use) and if you know the name, can you tell me where I can find a replacement for it (or where we can buy the parts to wire one up)? Thanks in advance, Chris |

Re: Late 60's Marshall 100 W head - Strange Power Cord Type
It's called a Bulgin connector. You can find some here: http://www.ampheaven.com/spare_parts_section.htm
Or here: 6 foot marshall amp power cord european voltage - eBay (item 290268305766 end time Oct-23-08 17:30:29 PDT) |

Ahh, that's what it is. Thanks a lot. Definitely gonna bookmark this site.
Also, since the amp was powered off when the cord sparked and shocked me, I'm praying REAL hard that I didn't fry something in the head itself. |

Re: Late 60's Marshall 100 W head - Strange Power Cord Type
Hi.
While the Bulgin connector is the original and all, some insurance companies have been reported to refuse the compensation in an event of a fire/schock or similar event, as it's not EU approved. And IIRC it's even "classified" as a fire hazard. IEC cord is. I personally won't replace the Bulgin connector on mine, not in my lifetime, but if the head is toured extensively, that's something worth to be considered. Regards Sam |
