Marshall 1974 JMP 50 Watts - no MK II?
Hi there,
I was offered a 1974 JMP 50W head. Looks good so far, only one thing that looks strange to me: There's no MK II, super lead, pa or whatsoever label left hand side of rear panel above "made in england by ..." Serial no is S/A 2xx2F, PCB, metal panel, European model. Were there non-MK II models manufactured in 1974? Any experience and/or advices before buying aside from testing? |

Re: Marshall 1974 JMP 50 Watts - no MK II?
50 watt 4 input heads only ever had MKII on the back, no other printed model details, and that came in about 73/74 - it normally coincides with a PCB inside, but not a problem if it doesn't appear. Some previous owner may even have polished it off as the writing comes off too damn easy if you use metal polish.

...and he's wrong, it's a bass model - I can tell from the shared V1 cathode and no brigjt cap on Volume 1 pot, but a bright cap in the channel 1 mixer resistor position. Notice how there's a little torn off bite from the inspection sticker just where it would have said "BASS"? Naughty!
Good news is, it's still a great amp. |

I have a 1977 1986 head like this. Essentially the exact same amp as you're looking at with later cosmetics. The thing RIPS!!!! The bass models have a chunkier bottom end, and like to be pushed!
