Hey from AZ

Kind of a long life story but may have interest to some.
At 10 My older bro gave me his Silvertone guitar with amp in case.
I practiced using my dads RCA 45 player with Johnny Cash & beatles 45's.
Parents divorced, stayed with my dad he bought me a Guild 12 string electric with f holes. 8th grade put a band totogether, Scott on his Slingerland set (he was taking drum lessons), John on rhythm, me lead/bass. Dad bought me a Kingston bass. He came home from work one evening & said the pawn shop near us has a real nice Gibson guitar. So we went there to look at it (now keep in mind i'm around 13 yrs old). He opened the case & it was an sg Kustom(spelt with a K). cherry mahogany, 3 pickups, Bixby & all triple gold plated. We traded the Guild 12, the bass & $800. for the sg. The finish was like glass! It did have 1 buckle mark on the back. The instructions said to 1st unlatch the case & let it breathe, then slowly open the lid(unusual!!).

At 14 My friend down the block I grew up with broke into our house during the day. Took the sg, Univox tape echo (I paid $550 for) & he traded them for a lid of pot to a band
John the rhythm player went to a yard sale across the street from his home & bought a basket case guitar for $12. came to my house & gave it to me for $12. & he said where he got it & that they are the parents of the bass player of 3 dog night & this was in their attic (& i'm going "yeah sure").
Since I didnt have a guitar at that time I looked at it well hmmm, it needs a lot of help. There was very little light blue paint so I sanded it & painted it. My dad helped me cut out the covers for the pots & with the leftover chrome made a plate behind the bridge. Since this was a junker guitar & stripped out my Vox cast metal fuzz box & put the electronics under the plate behind the bridge & made a 9v battery square hole in the back using an extra neck plate as the cover. I stringed it, played it & it just didnt have the sound of the sg so I took it back apart cut a hole in the pickguard & installed an old humbucker I got somewhere & added the switch. Put it all together & it CRANKS!!!
It is a 66 Fender electric 12. I only ever put 6 strings on it & Johnny Winters had one on the cover of his album!!! I was stoked!!!

I really got into Joe Walsh, Johnny Winters & some Hendrix. We played at older rich people parties until we caught a couple night clubs & the 1st Mcdonalds in Tucson.

Around 16 yrs old 2nd week Sophmore year high school I was working at circle k at night & I owned 1/2 of Music store in Scottsdale, the repair dept & I carried a new line of guitars called Ibanez, 3/4 guitars, doublenecks, thinline copys etc. Really cool looking & very affordable.
Tye the 1/2 owner(older man) wanted to go back to NY so we closed.

I know this is probably boring & too much detail, but I'm saving a copy of this for my 19 yr old son which is in a band.

THE 66 FENDER IS IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ATTACHED PICTURE & I STILL HAVE IT!!!

IF YOU WANT TO READ MORE, LET ME KNOW & I'LL CONTINUE!!

Re: Hey from AZ

Welcome Carrol,

Good intro.
Nice guitar collection too.
I vote that you continue, tell us more.

Also, what's that black guitar just on the right of the Fender 12 string?
I feel like I should know, but the model escapes my mind - also I wouldn't be entirely sure even if I could remember.
