Say you could have a sig guitar

Say you were offered a sig guitar, which company and what specs would you choose.

I would probarbly go Gibson scale length, with a light body and maple cap, no flame, Big neck, locking tuners, set neck, LP type body, recessed heel for upper access, roller nut, Trem that can lock to a hard tail , and some electronics that can flip from HB to a convincing single coil tone, maybe a single in the middle if it did not look ridiculous. Plain colour with nickel hardware.

Not sure how it would look, probarbly pretty weird, but it would work for me.

Re: Say you could have a sig guitar

i like where your going with this.

It would have to be a Gibson LP with 24 frets. Somewhere between a 50's and 60's neck profile. Kluson tuners, hard tail, coil spilt on the neck PU, flametop with an orangey burst going out to dark brown around the edge. LP Custom binding. Nickel hardware.

**** yeh !

Re: Say you could have a sig guitar

PRS. Oops, sorry...alternate universe again.

Strat of course.
Ash body. Various colour options, but colours not available on any other guitar (but black available too...gotta have a black one)
1 piece quartersawn maple neck. 9.5 radius, C shaped
LSR nut
Schaller locking tuners
2 point, bent claw bridge and tremolo
Electrics would be RS Guitar works
pickups are Lindy Fralin Blues Specials

Jackson RR with mahogany body, maple/ebony neck, FloydRose, and probably Duncan pickups.

Re: Say you could have a sig guitar

I'd basically get a Heritage Cherry Sunburst LP with a few modifications.
  • Gibson LP body style.
  • Alder body.
  • Quilted maple top.
  • Q-sawn maple neck.
  • Ebony fretboard.
  • MOP inlays.
  • 22 frets.
  • Locking tuners.
  • SD JB in bridge
  • SD Alnico II (NOT THE SLASH SIG) in neck
  • TOM bridge with string-through body

a Sky guitar...

w/ Floyd Rose

like the original, I'd like the 46 fret version w/ the last 10 being fretless.
piezo pickups @ all harmonic points, SD Blackout Heavymetal p/u'.

A burl top...

here's one of the Dean ones: (30+ fret)

Re: Say you could have a sig guitar

It would be an Epiphone Les Paul Custom. I love those bound headstocks on the Epi's. I'd want the 50's neck profile, Ebony board, Mahogany body with a Walnut cap. Decorate it with Gold Tone Pros hardware, DR Pure Nickle size 10's, Switchcraft toggle and jack, 50's wired and SD 59's neck and bridge. Oh, and strap locks would be stock equipment.

my sig guitar would actually be exact coppies of my 1998 Jackson Soloist that I had built to my personal specs. It is the sweetest guitar i've ever held, and has been my #1 since the day I got it.

Re: Say you could have a sig guitar

Built by Carvin or Gibson. It would be a semi hollow, single cut design with a contoured heel for upper access. This would be possible using a single piece back and sides (Carvin single cut, Vox Virage style). Deep tenon, set neck, compound radius (12 at the nut, 20 at the 24th), 24 frett, 3+3 banjo tuners (21:1 ratio, locking). Pickup selector up on the horn (LP style), 2 volume, 2 tone. Pickups would be Alnico V's, covered. Fretboard would be Ebony, Back/sides Walnut, mahogany neck, Bubinga top-highly figured. Finish would be translucent black, created by charing the wood with a torch, and then coated in a light nitrocell coating. Matte finish, no shine! All hardware and pickup covers, and nut would be aged matte brass. The inlays would be aged brass inset into the ebony. Binding would be abalone, and be continuous-no breaks anywhere (like a mobius strip). It would be strung with Dean Markely Blue Steels 10-46's. Back of neck would be satin, like the body, but be hit with 300 grit for smooth feel. Frets would be medium jumbo. Logo would be matching abalone. Ahhhh....I'm drooling.

Les,

How do you find the EMGs?? I have never owned a guitar with them, and had an uneducated negative attitude to them for a long time. But a lot of players say they are great (as you do) and can get the same feel out of them as you can with passive pickups.

Re: Say you could have a sig guitar

Sig made by Fujigen Guitars.

Body shape similar to Ibanez FR, Korina/Koa.... Maple 25.5 scale neck. 24-fret medium... 2 humbuckers (DiMarzio Evo) - push/pull volume pot to split the coil... Gotta have a Floyd...

Color choices: blackburst or mother-of-pearl.

Re: Say you could have a sig guitar

exactly what i picked up recently. Made In an old Epiphone factory. someone high up the chain from Gibson & another party got together (either D'addario or Dimarzio, i can't recall the story, it was a more private deal) and they produced these out of gibsons old Epiphone factory. Gibson stopped the production due to them being so hot, and capable of taking sales away from Gibson/epiphone (Lovers quarrel separation between the two)

..... I picked this one up from Old shop stock from my local music shop. you can't order or find them very much. Flawless in everyway, tried many epi's and gibbys... but these have some love being only a small amount produced

Mahogany body with Flamed Maple top, Mahogany deep set neck, Rosewood fretboard, Full body/neck/headstock binding, Alnico 5 EMG Open coil Passive HB SRO-OC1 16.9k-B/ 7.35K-N , Gold Hardware....

Re: Say you could have a sig guitar

EDIT: Forgot the company. Would most likely be ESP.

Available as a 6 string or 7 string:
ESP Eclipse shape (Full thickness)
Gibson-esque headstock
Alder body with maple top (plain on solid finish, figured on trans finish)
Multi-ply binding on headstock and body
25.5'' 6 string or 27'' 7 string
24 frets
Maple neck
Bound ebony board with no inlays
Single bridge pickup (Emg 85 for the 6 string and 85-7 for the 7 string... Yes, the 85-7 is real. it was recently released)
Gotoh tuners
Gotoh Floyd Rose
Locking nut
Black hardware
Single volume knob (speed knob)
Mini killswitch
3 finishes:

White burst

Trans pink burst

Trans purple burst

I planned this shit out, yo.

EDIT: Maybe something a bit more classy?

Les Paul shape with a really deep, sharp cutaway
Same Gibson-esque headstock
Mahogany body with quilt maple top
Natural satin finish
Single-ply binding on body and headstock
24.75'' scale
22 frets
Bound maple board with no inlays
Maple neck
H/S/H config
Duncan SH-5 bridge, SSL-5 middle, Jazz neck
Gotoh tuners
Gibson TP-6 or Schaller Fine-tuning stop tailpiece with ToM (unsure)
Graphtech nut
Gold hardware
2 volume knobs
5-way blade switch

poeman33 and Wycked Lester like this.

It would be so close to the Gibson Slash AFD guitar...since that just looks and sounds absolutely amazing. I'd have it in faded though, if it isn't already.

I would probably order a custom designed guitar instead (me, getting offered a sig guitar, not likely...)

6 string
Mahogany body with a 3 piece plain maple top (top not centered, natural finish, double bound)
Set mahogany neck, baritone scale, bound
2x P-Rails + tripple shots
2x vol, 2x tone

Inlays shaped like:

That's easy. Gibson scale, tobacco burst/plain top, slightly hot PAF's 2 tone/2volume w/3 way. Chunky neck, meduim frets. Hey, I already have it...

Inferno Stormblade (Explorer type)
Mahogany body w. quilt maple top + bindings
3 piece maple/mahogany/maple neck
Set neck sanded down for a neck through feel
Ebony fretboard
Split diamond inlays
Dragonfire Sreamers pu (HB/HB)
T.O.M + Stoptail
Grover tuners
One volume knob + 3-way toggle switch
Black hardware
Finished like this:

And one Inferno Comet (LP) same specs as above.

I wouldn't mind some versions with floyd rose and chrome hardware in the same burst only white instead of the red.

Re: Say you could have a sig guitar

Fender Strat
Ash body - like the 70's style, varnished but aged so it goes darker/smoky.
Neck profile of a 2000 Squier Strat (quite small, very comfortable), 50s-60s headstock style
Ebony Fingerboard
22 Stainless Steel 6105 size frets
Graphtech TuSQ nut
Sperzel Locking Tuners
2 point pivot bridge with vintage saddles, tremol-no equipped
Bareknuckle Irish Tour pickups (prewired black pickguard would do fine)

I think that would do me just awesome.

I have lots of "signature" guitars ....I think most of 'em eventually turn into some sort of signature once i get my hands on 'em ....some things I pick up for the sake of experiment or to make 'em function to MY needs ..
Im not the 1st guy to do any of this sh*t

I've gone so far as to present some of my ideas to my contacts at Gibson ...they usually say ,"tell your story walkin ,pal".....

Quite fond of the p-90 in the bridge/Les Paul mini in the neck combo

Re: Say you could have a sig guitar

Fender style neck..rosewood fingerboard, simple white dot inlays. Tele style body, white binding on front and back with a blue gloss finish. P-90 pickups with a three-way selector. String-thru body, recessed TOM bridge.

Basically, a Telecaster, built to sound like an old LP with P90s, aside from the string-thru of course.

Fender Strat.

I would change almost every spec and you wouldn't know the difference until you actually played it. It would be built with all the best features Fender has put on various Strats over the years. For whatever reason, they haven't made the "best of the best" Strat yet.
