Refinish project: Jackson Kelly

As said earlier, I was gonna refinish my Jackson, and it's finally being done We've been working on the guitar since yesterday, but unfortunately I've lost all the pictures from the sanding, priming, ..., until as it is now. More pics to come when we start on clearcoat and polishing. But check it out and leave a comment

The design:

Right after the "texture" coat:

After all the main color:

And finally with the masking of the silver pinstripe gone, ready for clearcoat!

What a beautiful guitar!

Simply beautiful.

How did you manage to get the grid pattern in the paintwork?

Looking good!

With one of these non-slip rubber mats you can get. They are thin mats of rubber, and got these wholes in the pattern you can paint through. Many painters use them for this kind of design

Re: Refinish project: Jackson Kelly

That's a hell of a job so far!

One suggestion: PLEASE Dye the Fretboard (matt has a tutorial thread in this section if you're not familiar). Nothing says "bottom of the barrel import" like sharkteeth over rosewood, and that ass brown is going ruin your hard work by clashing with the black of your burst. One simple application of dye will make that axe a "5 ft Custom Shop" (an assumed Custom Shop Jackon to trained eyes... until they scrutinize it within 5 feet or so)!

Nice looking work - too bad it's a bolt-on.

Re: Refinish project: Jackson Kelly

Thanks alot guys Well, if it hadn't been a bolt-on, I would'nt have dared to refinish it. It's only my backup guitar for gigs, so I thought, why not make it look cooler, it cant go wrong
