Went guitar shopping

First of all, how are you going to work at Sam Ash and not know what the **** a maple neck is....WTF?

Anyway, I played on a couple of strats and tele's and I didn't click with anything. I kind of liked this one tele' at Guitar Center and he offered about 10 percent off, but I was like "I can get the guitar for 800 easy.

Not a great day for guitar hunting, I was disappointed to say the least. I'm just not digging the feel of the necks on the Std's at all.... Any suggestions will help. I'm also taking up offers in the classifieds, because I'd really like a tele or strat.....

Re: Went guitar shopping

Just keep tryin as many out as you can till you find one that clicks with you is all I can say. Look at new and used and do your own research.

It helps if the person at the store knows what they are talking about, and can answer your questions.

I've just been through the the process of buying a strat and tbh I lost count of how many I tried before I found what I wanted. Once I knew what I wanted then I started to look at who could do the best price.

Do the whole "Order a custom neck to your specs from Warmoth (or wherever) and buy a Fender body and hardware/electronics from eBay or a store" that I mentioned in one of your threads

Re: Went guitar shopping

Always remember my 2009 Fender American Special Stratocaster with Texas Special Pickups. Fender's Listing is here.

But I wouldn't pay that. I'd probably shop more like this.

And if you want an "HSS" strat instead of an "SSS" one, check here.

Me, since I have a Strat, my next guitar purchase will most likely be a Tele. I already have the one I want picked out. It's right here.

Re: Went guitar shopping

Ya man that two tone was sounding great, but I cant dig on that color, and for a grand I have to like the cosmetic aspect also.

But ya I'm definitely gonna look until I bond with something.

Re: Went guitar shopping

i'd say take some measurements & go the warmouth route or a an early 70's style neck.

after spending so much time on my lp's I can't play a strat for chit anymore unless it's a jackson type neck-and they're to thin.
a Fender 70's would be the closest thing to the 50's lp neck profile for me.

Re: Went guitar shopping

What didn't you like about the neck? You say a Jackson neck is too thin...which is a much thinner and flatter neck than a Standard. Are you looking for a thicker neck?...a V neck?...rounder radius?...

If the Standard isn't doing it for you...sounds like it's Partscaster time Easily done with top quality components with a grand.

Re: Went guitar shopping

Come to my house. If I dont have one that you love, nobody does! LOL
I've had several people come by and play mine to help find what they want.

What kind of feel are you going for? Big, small, fat, thin?

Re: Went guitar shopping

Check out a SRV or KWS Strat. They have nice fat necks! These are hit or miss, but the American Deluxe series have decent sized necks also.

Re: Went guitar shopping

Early '60's necks are probably the way to go, unless you want maple. The neck on my '62 RI is pretty beefy. I think the 60's custom ordered maple necks with applied maple 'boards are also quite a unit. They were available back then for special order if you didn't want rosewood. I believe Hendrix used one for awhile. Matt might know if there's a re-issue these days with this type of neck...dude?.
