Dave Murray's Current Guitar setup
As we all know that Dave Murray uses Fender Stratocaster for the last 15 years, and we are all wondering what type of Stratocasters does Dave Murray uses.
Dave Murray uses 2 late nineties a Black and Cream colour Fender American Special Stratocaster HSS with Floyd Rose with a maple neck, a SSS pearloid pickguard, vintage style tuners, three Seymour Duncan Hot Rails Bridge, and 2 Hot Rail neck pickups. For more info for the Fender American Special Stratocaster with Floyd Rose the link is Pirk´s guitars and amps ! - Fender American Special Strat USAŽMIA and for more photos FenderŽ Forums • View topic - Pic of my Fender Stratocaster HRRs, post yours Also Dave Murray uses a modified 1997-98 Brown Sunburst Fender California Stratocaster with a rosewood neck and Floyd Rose, with the same Pickups as the Black and the cream strat. Only difference is that the neck only has 21 frets as appose to the American Special Strat. |

Re: Dave Murray's Current Guitar setup
I have not seen Dave to play any other than Stratos before, but last summer they had a gig at Helsinki Olympic Stadium and Dave played quite a many songs with Les Paul. For example in this video (solo starting at about 03:01).

Re: Dave Murray's Current Guitar setup
It may sound stupid but that LP dont look right on him as i have always seen him with strats.
I also think dave murray is one of the most underrated guitarists out there. |

Re: Dave Murray's Current Guitar setup
Actually find it pretty weird. As far as I can remember Strats are pretty much all he's been playing for ever. Now as I'm writing this I kn ow that a few people will post pics of Murray using something else than a Strat lol. But that's all I remember him playing, Strats. Smith however has played mostly everything except for Strats but now he's playing them too.

Re: Dave Murray's Current Guitar setup
If I remember the set list here at Helsinki correctly, it was about so that the "oldies" (Fear of the dark, Number of the Beast, etc. ) Dave played with Strat and those new ones from the latest albums he played with LP.

Re: Dave Murray's Current Guitar setup
I've seen a number of live clips of Dave playing an Ibanez Destroyer during the Number Of The Beast era. Adrian played them back then, too.
Cheers! ![]() ![]()

Re: Dave Murray's Current Guitar setup
Back in '84, when I saw them during the Powerslave tour, they used Lados.

Re: Dave Murray's Current Guitar setup
There are few things don't seem right in regards to these guitar being labeled as Fender American Special stratocasters. Ignorning the obvious (locking tremolo, pickguard, and pickups), the head stock is all wrong; the American Special Stratocasters have a 1970's shape. Additionally, the neck finish is different on these when compared to an American Special Stratocaster. Finally, from the description of the link the OP provided, the frets are listed as medium jumbo, whereas the American Special Stratocaster has jumbo frets. These strats pictured in this thread and on the link must be some other kind of Fender strat model.

Re: Dave Murray's Current Guitar setup
Yeah, that is exactly what I thought, too! The links provided by the op were suggesting that his guitar was an American Special Strat, not me. I just hope people understand the difference before they buy.

Re: Dave Murray's Current Guitar setup
Carnada, your information is wrong... read this: FenderŽ Forums • View topic - Fender American Special Strat HSS Help???
Plus your "replica" is not a replica. Dave Murray's black and Cream strat are strats with floyd rose already installed for the public to use, it has vintage tuners, a place to put two allen wrench on the back of the headstock, and no tree nut. On Dave Murray's brown sunburst strat its a Fender California Series with a rosewood neck, which was modified to have a floyd rose bridge and sporting a pearloid pickguard with hot rails just like yours Carnada. Your guitar has fender/ping tuners, a tree nut, and the wrong decal on the headstock. Your decal on the headstock says: Fender Stratocaster Made in U.S.A Original Contour Body. Dave Murray's black and cream strat says: Fender Stratocaster. Plus those guitars are discontinued since the late 90s'. But on the bright side here is something you will enjoy.
