Hi Everyone,
My name is Jane. I have played professionally for many years but am now working for the government. I still have 2 bands and play and write. Last week i purchased a JVM210h. It sounds like butter. I love it. I have Mesa Rectifier and Hughes Kettner Head. I love the midi on the JVM. I am trying to merge it with a Line 6 M13. I am hoping you all will help me do that. I just asked a question on the forum. Looking forward to making sweet, butter tones with the new head. Thanks for letting me in to learn from you all.

I am looking at two overdrive/distortion pedals on the market that promise that classic plexi "bark" or "crunch". I am looking for something that will give tones like AC/DC and Van Halen (early Van Halen, not that 5150 amp stuff), but when put before an EQ pedal will give stuff like Boston (early Boston, not Rockman). The two I am considering are the Wampler Plextortion ($199, wamplerpedals.com) and the Rockbox Boiling point ($389, rockbox.com). I just wanted your opinions on these. I haven't tried either, but all the demos of both pedals sound close to what I'm looking for. I play a Fender HSS Strat into a Peavey Classic 30.

Hi all,Looking forward to being part of this site, meeting new people with the same interests and sharing helpfull info.My 1st question to anyone who can help.I have a 1959RR marshall. Can someone help with trying to get a decent tone.My problem is that it is without a doubt, the loudest amp I have ever had and I have owned a few marshalls in my time. Now I know this is a common problem but I tried putting an MXR+ in front and the tone has no power, sustain or fullness at a reasonable volume. If I turn it up of course its there but I cant even begin to explain how loud this amp is.I would like to be able to play it and not have it sound like my guitar volume and pedal volume are on one (No tone just weak and loud).
Thanks Ray

Hello all. I am a member over at the sister site "My Les Paul" and have seen links to people over here. I finally decided to join as I am trying to learn a bunch more about my favorite sound amps, Marshall.

I have read some threads mentioning other amps folks own and the horror stories of having to listen to "bad tone" (bad as in terrible, not good).

One of the threads concerned Line 6 amps and of all that I read I agree with the opinion that there is no way a modeling amp can come even close to the real thing.
I made the mistake about 9 years ago of selling my '76 Fender Twin because I didn't like the sound (tone, whatever). It appears that what I should have done was some basic maintenance (update the old tubes, etc).

I was caught up in the modeling craze and thought I could get what I wanted out of a Felxtone II. It is more recently that I have realized that the only way I will get the sounds I want is to buy the real thing so I am saving my money until I can buy a REAL amp - a Marshall. In the mean time, I will continue to educate myself as much as possible and enjoy the posts from this site.

Hello all. My name is Glenn. I live in Red Deer, Alberta, Canada.

I discovered this forum while Googling for some troubleshooting tips to help me remedy a failed Marshall TSL 100W head.

The information I found in these forums was invaluable, here is a brief summary of what I experienced:

- Turned amp on, warmed it up 3 minutes then hit Standby off
- No volume on Lead channel, but constant volume on Clean channel with no volume control
- Turned off, unplugged, check HT1 (High Tension) 250V 1A fuse which was good.
- Turned back on, hit standby off then heard a pop and loud hum from cabinet. Valves 2 and 3 plates glowing bright orange.
- Purchased all new pre-amp and power tubes and installed.
- Bias voltages were found at 36mV (left) and 60mV (right). This was never checked since purchase!!!
- Adjusted to 85mV per side and the amp tears it up like never before!

What I learned:
- ALWAYS check you tube biases even if you purchase new from factory. The mini- pots were both turned all the way clockwise, as if the technician never even bothered to set the bias in the factory! Weak!
- If you keep blowing your HT1 fuse, check your valve biases.

Thank you all again for the great community and information. I will see you again soon,

Cheers

New to the forum, old to Marshall. I've gotten away from them, only to go back to them....which getting back is where I'm currently at. :)

I've had a JCM900, 2203x, 1959x, and a Reinhardt storm (and a nice amp it was). I'm working on picking up a DSL and seeing what it has to offer. Seems fairly versatile and a nice blend between vintage and modern. I'll find out. :dude:

Lost a buncha of those in a house fire back in '03. Sold some others I probably shouldnt have. Currently own a MG50dfx, a highly modified 4x12 MG cab(took the chicom sorta celestions out and replaced them with G12M-70's, then re-wired parallel-series to up the bass response), a JCM2000 DSL100 which is fixing to be modded and a tobacco-burst LP Standard Classic(when you buy a brand new one these days make sure 'classic' is part of the tagline, otherwise you get the chambered 7 piece thing instead of a true solid-body which oughta be one-piece and routed instead of glued together).
Hey tube headz! After repeatedly following Google links here and enjoying the benefits of lurking (or ...the importance of not being seen), I decided to join up so I could ask questions and voice opinions - which means I believe this to be an excellent site, worthy of enduring the flames; informative and interesting, with the occasional comic relief that I love so dear.

As you can see, I like getting the most out of a single sentence. :fingersx:

I've been on the planet for 56 years (I just celebrate anniversaries of my 18th birthday... wash, rinse, repeat); and while I don't leap in the air and do splits anymore (owww-wwooo!) or dance on table tops, I still can't stand still while playing on stage or in the studio. I don't look like Keith Richards yet... but I'm workin' on it.

While I've been in and out of studios over the years (both behind and in front of the console), I currently earn my keep doing masters from a small, unimpressive studio in my home; and after some years away from it - am gearing up to start performing live again. I've been living the life of Dr. Jekyll, but realized Mr. Hyde is where I feel alive. :naughty: Starting out in coffee houses in the late '60s, I traveled in Rock bands who agreed to do some of my material through the '70s & '80s (except for a brief stint with a variety band during the disco years... but I don't talk about that) - with no home but a motel room or band house (with the occasional holiday cabin getaway). I tried the 'straight' life, and discovered to my surprise that I am a musician... who knew? :headbanger:

Over the years I've had Fender, Vox, Ampeg, Sunn and of course Marshall amps. I traveled with a '72 50 watt for most of my career, which I sold when I started building my studio in favor of a small Hughes & Kettner (major regrets). So now I'll be posting stupid questions to help me make decisions about gearing up. :Ohno: Hopefully, I'll also be able to offer some beneficial advice along the way too (if nothing else - what not to do).

So thanks for having open sign-ups here, and I'll see ya on the boards.
Cheers,
Moose Lewis

Hi there -

So, something in me just decided to learn as much as I can about vintage MArshalls - and I am on a quest to amass some knowledge and amps to start a collection.

My only Marshall to date is my original amp from High School - a JCM 900 half stack from 1991. I dusted it off a few months back and have finally started playing my electric guitar again.

Anyway.....

I've been researching the MArshall history and have identified which models I want to try to acquire -

JTM 45/100
Bluesbreaker 2X12 or 4X10
JCM 800
Marshall 6100

This is where I think I should start - make sense?

I recently bought a Gibson Pearly Gates R9 which sounds just awesome - but its begging for some old, vintage tone ampage!

Its tough to find "original" original gear - most everything you can find has had modifications or the transformers replaced - and at that point, I might as well buy a new amp....unless some of you more seasoned pro's can explain why a 1966 JTM45 with replaced transformers is worth anything from a dollars and tone standpoint.

Lastly, how do the reissues sound compared to the real deal? There are a few out there of the 40th anniversary JTM45/100 full stack - they sure do look pretty - but do they sound at all like the real thing?

My pearly and 50th R9 les pauls feel and sound pretty good compared to a friends original 59 burst. For my money, I'd rather have the re-issue guitars which are almost dead ringers for original and the real deal amps. Anyone care to share their opinions?

Thanks!

PS - great forum! I look forward to learning from everyone!

Some stuff about me -

I live in Bergen County, NJ, have three kids under the age of 5 and am hapily married to a very tolerant woman. I recently renovated our basement and built myself a (400 sq ft) guitar/music room with soundproofing sheetrock and other sound absorbing materials in the walls and ceiling. I haven't really played my electric guitars in 10 years - but, about 1 year ago, one of my neighbors has a house he was going to build on spec, but the market turned and its been our jam house. about 10 local guys get together to play and jam out once a week. Its a blast! So, its put this new fire in me. We call it "Therapy". So, I dont play clubs or out really. Most of this gear will pretty much stay at home for me to admire and enjoy and pass down to my three kids.

That's if my wife doesnt make me sell it all after she actually sees what a marshall stack looks and sounds like :-) . :dude:
