Reducing mic feedback...

Our singer has a Sennheiser mic, maybe one of the lower end ones that just gets lots of feedback. The other mics we use don't feedback, and in fact get the same volume without having to raise the channel level.

Anyway, we are always getting feedback. Unfortunately we do not have monitors so we have to have the mains far back enough for us to hear.

Any tips?

Has anyyone tried the Behringer Feedback Eliminator? I think it's like the DSP110

We cut the treble, cut the bass, lower the level, but it seems to continue to creep back in.

Whats better than a OD-1

Hello everytbody.. first time poster here.. Great to be part of this fantastic Forum.:rock:

Im running a JMP 1978 2203 with a Gibson Flying V which I love and have recently done a couple of tone lizzard mods which have subtley improved the tone even further. Ive tried lots of different pedals but keep coming back to the Boss OD-1 (which is mid eighties) but wonder if there is a OD pedal that is even better?

Ive spent the last few hours searching the forum and have read some cool posts concerning OD pedals but am still scratching my head! So who loves their Boss OD-1 but have found an even better version??

I grew up listening to the classic bands such as Lizzy, Shenker, Free ect but also love the more high-gain Marshall sounds from the likes of Jake E Lee.

One of my favourite tones is from the debut album by a band called Point Blank in 1976. I think the guy used a strat though.

There are 2 pedals that sound interesting from what Ive read from the forum so far: Digitech Bad Monkey, Danelectro CO-1.

I feel like a kid in a toy shop in this forum... so much to read and learn.. wicked!

Thanks again

Awe-in-One Picks

Alright, so as you may or may not be aware, I am endorsed by a wonderful little company called "Awe-in-One" picks Awe-In-One Guitar Picks Plectrums. Obviously, if they endorse me, they aren't huge, but I am going to be totally honest and say that they make, in my opinion, the most comfortable picks on the market.

`My progression of picks was Fender confetti extra heavy, Dunlop 2.0 mm gator grips, Dunlop Jazz 3 1.44mm, now Awe in one Profound 1 series in Celluplus (the white ones). The ones I use are very similar to the Jazz 3 in size, but, because of the unique shape are much more comfortable. It feels very awkward to use other picks now haha Also, of all my friends that play guitar, they're ALL using the same pick now because it honestly makes you a better player.

I completely understand that this sounds like an "oh yeah right, he's just saying that because he's endorsed by them," but seriously, give them a shot and see what you think. If you use a regular sized pick, they will feel weird (at least the profound ones) at first as do Jazz 3 if you've tried them, but the smaller size really lends itself to pinch harmonics and "shredding" better in my opinion.

You can also try out some of the larger ones such as the rock picks or folk power if you're unsure about the smaller ones. If you REALLY want to try em but are too skeptical, I'll ship you one or two to try  I'm that confident that they kick ass!

Hey people!

Which is the best wah to use with the Boss DS-1 Keeley utlra mod???

I'm currently using the crybaby original, fassel inductor. It seems to clip when I engage it especially if I'm using alot of distortion (van halen amounts) on the DS-1.

Anyone here mess around with them?
How do you find them?
What have you used?

I've been playing with ReValver III for a while now. It's pretty darn good I think.
Here's something I've been fooling round with
http://www.netmusicians.org/files/70-Baker%20Street.mp3
The playing/mix isn't great but I think the guitar tone would fool most people into thinking it was real amp, I'd say. What say you?

Best Tone Competition - Voting poll 2 of 2

Voting continues in the best tone competition!

We have 12 entries, so to work with the limit of 10 on voting polls, we have two voting threads with 6 on each. Be sure to vote on both. We’ll combine the results when the poll is complete.

The competition was to submit a video or mp3 clip of the entrants guitar tone that demonstrated their version of ‘The Marshall Sound’. There was no restriction on music played or gear used, but recordings were to be simple without post processing effects. The entrants submitted on this thread: http://www.marshallforum.com/tone-zo...ition-d-3.html , and are also listed below.

Judging will be based on popular vote, and voting guidelines are as follows:
* Anyone may vote
* You have one chance to vote, but you can vote for several choices. So vote for the tones that you like
* Entrants are welcome to vote for themselves (support you own tone!), provided they also vote for at least one other entry
* It’s a tone competition, so as far as possible, decide on the basis of the guitar tone, rather than the playing, recording quality or music selection
* Judge each entry on its own merits, ie, if it is a metal tone, is it a good metal tone? Or if a blues sound, is it a good one? If you like it, click it.
* Voting is open for one week

And here are the second group of six entries submitted:

*dugger*
YouTube - Marshall 3203
*jensbrix*
SoundClick artist: Jens Brix Christensen - page with MP3 music downloads

YouTube - Marshall Forum Tone Competition Entry

Now if you haven’t already done so, go vote on the other thread....
http://www.marshallforum.com/tone-zo...oll-1-2-a.html
...for carnada, RazorDave, JohnH, big dooley, eljeffbrown and Ascension

So that’s it – and I think there are some very worthy contenders there that I hope you will enjoy listening to, as I have. Thanks to all who entered and a special thanks to Carnada who first had the idea of this comp.

cheers

This is the other thread where you must go after voting here:http://www.marshallforum.com/tone-zo...oll-2-2-a.html

* Anyone may vote

And here are the first group of six entries submitted:

*Carnada*

*RazorDave*

Most popular overdrive pedals

I was seeking for a good overdrive for my one channel JCM 800, I found in this forum that there are 3 very popular pedals : Ibanez Tubescreamer TS9 Reissue, Fulltone OCD, Boss SD-1.

So, I bought all three.

1- Ibanez Tubescreamer TS9 Reissue : Less gain, less bass, mid honk, good definition, smooth sounding -Very good for blues and classic rock. I like to use this pedal as a clean boost (Drive at 0 - Level at 10).

2- Fulltone OCD : There are two mode in this pedal - Low Peak and High Peak -, in LP mode this pedal is more transparent sounding. There are a lot of gain in comparaison of the TS9, better bass definition and all around note definition. In HP mode, this pedal have the possibility to have more gain, more volume, better bass definition. Also, there is a slight accentuated upper mid (3,5K) honk but still less mid than the TS9. I like to use this pedal in LP mode for more transparent sounding, but with a good gain boost to play heavy songs (Level at 7,5 - Drive at 6).

3- Boss SD-1 : A tap less gain than the Fulltone OCD, more agressive sounding, better bass definition that the TS9, but a lot less note definition than the others. Very suprising for a low cost pedal. I like to use this pedal for hard rock songs or just for extra punch (No specific settings for this one). This pedal is way better than the MXR ZW-44 for Zakk sound (I also own one that is accumulating dust :-), because it just don't sound good to my ears)

Hope this help!

My three favorite guitarists (Tom Scholz, Eddie Van Halen and Angus Young) used a '68 1959SLP as far as I'm concerned and I was wondering, what pedal can give me those tones? I know they used pre-amp equalization, and cranked their amps. I am considering an EQ pedal if it is really that significant to the tone, but what pedal will get me there without an EQ (is there?) I play a Fender HSS Strat into a Peavey Classic 30/112 combo. I have heard that getting an open back cabinet will help, but the amp is too loud for me as it is. So, what overdrive/distortion unit is based on this amp and can get me close to those tones? My Digitech RP-80 gives me close to these tones (through headphones), but sounds like shit through my amp (ironic, huh?)

I am looking at two overdrive/distortion pedals on the market that promise that classic plexi "bark" or "crunch". The two I am considering are the Wampler Plextortion ($199, wamplerpedals.com) and the Rockbox Boiling point ($389, rockbox.com). I just wanted your opinions on these.
HEELLLLPPP

my boss blue driver is being weird...

I turned on my setup, with my strat plugged in, and it started SQUEALING (like, not a good squeal)... it would stop when I turned the blues driver off, it stopped squealing. I tried it unpowered, I tried it with a half dead battery, I tried with a fresh battery... gain all the way up/ or all the way down, level all the way up or down, it just sits there and squeals.

any ideas what it might be???

Image: http://i225.photobucket.com/albums/dd230/lov3_gunn/WayneZang.jpg
(yes its spelled wrong, I know, I dont have photoshop, I found this online :laugh2:)

I got some Zhangbuckers, the Honk Plus bridge (10.3k with a tap at 9k) and a Cherrick neck (7.2 with a tap at 6.5) I installed them in my SG Classic on Saturday, right away I fell in love. The stock Gibson pickups were good, but not exactly what I wanted, I can honestly say these Zhangs have everythng I was looking for, plus alot more.

The neck is so creamy smooth, punchy but not over poweringly like the stock pickup was. They are a bit lower output but alot better balanced for my taste. The bridge has bite like mad dog, and harmonics galore. When I realized I wanted to replace the stock pickups, it was the neck pickup I was most unhappy with, but this bridge blows the stock one away. Both pickups are very touch sensitive, excellent bloom and have that infamous double tone (I never fully understood the concept until I played these) I've read some reviews by Refin, and he always raves about the clarity and string separation when playing multiple notes in unison, again, never fully understood until I played these.

I also installed these pickups with a new MSP rig from Jonesy, which, together, sound phenominal. the 500k pots bring alot of tone, and the PIO caps make a world of different over the cheap stock ones. The series setting is very nice, but running these pickups out of phase is incredible, alot better sounding that I was expecting. I have my LP wired for out-of-phase as well (a la Peter Green) but I think the P90s sound alot better OOP than humbuckers, alot less harsh and skanky (I know some people dont care for OOP humbuckers for those reasons, those people may want try it with p90s) I will post up some sound clips as soon as I can record some.

I haven't wired up the taps to switched yet, but that is something I will be remedying before too long.

Also, for fun and in the interest of experimentation, I mounted the pickups direct to the body rather than via the pickguard, with so many factors having been changed at once, its hard to say for sure what alteration is responsible for which sonic enhancement, but does seem to be improved, and as a previously mentioned, the clarity and harmonics are beyond what I was used to with the stock guitar.

I'm very happy with these pickups, and I'm sure to be trying other Zhangbuckers in the future, thanks David, you know you're stuff :thumb:
