This is my first post so bear with me but, recently i've never been one to bash another amp but this guy i know keeps egging on about his Orange and how "great it is" and how shitty Crates are, well I for one am all for Crate because everyone i've owned sounded as baddass as the more expensive ones (Marshall, Engl, Line 6, etc) and they have been extremely reliable (they can take one hell of a beating) so as far as i'm concerned it has and will be (until i get an Engl) my primary amp on stage and just practicing, but anyways i would like to hear other peoples opinion on this too so feel free to say whatever about either, its your opinion, also if i do this right i will be taking polls.

Old Music Man amp head

I used to own a Music Man HD 150. It sort of regret getting rid of it, but it was deafening (at 150 watts--6 EL34s!) and it had no real way to get any useful overdrive because the head I owned did not have a master volume control.

Fast forward to this week... I got to play through a Music Man HD 130 the other night at the studio. It DOES have a master volume control so I was able to dial in some crunch. Boy-oh-boy, what a great sounding amplifier! The clean was just delicious and the dimed out preamp volume with the master vol. channel was a lot of fun to run through.:fingersx:

I mention all this because these amps are still a really good deal on the used market. I noticed they are not quite the same great deal as a few years ago, but still are under-valued in my opinion.

I know, this is a MARSHALL forum and the Music Man amps are really the next generation of Fender amps, so they have a strong sonic resemblance to a Fender. However, I really think these are great amps and are well built. They can be tricked out by a good tech and the Music Man amplifiers are very solid road gear from my experience. And now I can say that I am enamored with the Music Man tone again. But me Marshall sound still comes first. :)

Ok so last night I played the school talent show. My band finished our song, and we were done. I quickly flipped my Bugera 1990 amp to standby and then 5 seconds later a kid working as a stage hand, unplugged the amp. The amp was only on standby for about 5 seconds.

It is now up until 30 mins ago I did not even touch the amp. I flick on the power switch, and the light is on. I let it sit for about 5 mins, and then i switch it off of standby. There is no sound, no hiss, no nothing.

What can this be? I replaced the fuze, but to no avail. The 5881 tubes glow, Im fearing that a power tube has blown. Please help me.

Thanks

Hey guys. I know alot of guys "look down" on the V-series of crate amps, but i got a "sweet" deal on a brand new in the box V-33H...and the stock "Soveteks" has gotta go! lol!(got plenty of "N.O.S" EL34's&12AX7's.) The booklet that came with it stated that with a "re-tube",the power valves needs to be biased...but i always thought that EL34's were "cathode-based" valve, and did not need biasing. So what gives here???:wtf:

I finally played and tested the FINALLY SHIPPING Epi Valve Sr. today. I've been waiting for these things to appear for more than a year.

Has anyone else played one yet? I am currious on opinions. I only played it through a 4x12 w/ V30's so I couldn't tell how close it was to a VJr. which I play on a set of matching Epi cabs.

If it has the same sound/tone/characteristics as the JR. I am getting it.
