JVM 215C - Tubes

Hello,

I own a JVM 215C. I recently had my amp serviced to have new tubes installed and a defective factory speaker cable replaced. Since bringing it home I have had challenges dialing in my preferred tone. I have complete confidence in the techs who serviced the amp so there are no issues there. I had Marshall (labeled) EL34's and they have been replaced by Ruby EL34BHT's. If I were smart I would have saved my dial settings on the amp prior to bringing it in but I did not. This is becoming a good learning experience for me and I suppose I can continue to try many dial setting combos. I find I need to tweak my effect pedals too. Is this a common phenomenon that everyone experiences and do I simply need to be more patient or is there something more sinister at work affecting my tone ? ;-) I play classic and alternative rock (Floyd,Petty, Pearl Jam , etc..) . I use a Strat and a Les Paul - Thx in advance - sgtrek5200

Decoding Class 5 Serial Numbers?

Can anyone decode the Class 5 serial number for me?

I am substituting 'X' for the letter that actually starts my serial number and am using 'yyyy' for year because I don't like putting my serial numbers out on the web. With that in mind here is mine X-yyyy-46-0847-2 RoHS.

Does the '46' stand for the day or the week within the production year? Does '0847' mean it was the 847th produced that day, week, or year? And does the '2' indicate that mine is a version 2.0 of the Class 5? As for the RoHS, I am pretty sure it is irrelevant so I am not concerned about that (unless, of course, it acutally means something).

Thanks for the info.

Any POWER concerns on Marshalls purchased out of the US ?

I'd like to see if anyone in the forum knows generally speaking if an older vintage Marshall or a relatively newer release that was purchased from a private owner outside of the US would need to have any modifications to work correctly and safely here as far as our power (120 v / 60 Hz) is concerned. Specifically, I just purchased a Marshall Plexi 1959 RR (Randy Rhoads amp) from Canada, and was wondering if there was anything else I need to be concerned about other than of course making sure the mains selector is correctly set.

Newbie looking for a footswitchable Marshall Stack

Hi All,

Just wanted to introduce myself here. Long time reading, first time posting. So I've been searching for my prize Marshall amp. So like many of us here, I was first introduced to the Marshall sound when I was young and impressionable of the late eighties early nineties. And the band to listen to, was GNR.

I don't want this turn into a Slash debate, as seems to be the common issue here, all that I will say is he's the man who inspired to learn the guitar, so for that reason, I'm looking to see after 20 years of playing, I can now justify a Marshall that can emulate a similar tone.

Ok, so write to I seek some help and looking for a Marshall stack, but seek opinions on what would best suit my needs. So as for criteria, let me start listing them out.

-Looking for a stack setup
-As I not really interested in stomp boxes, I'm looking for a footswitchable two channel amp, so that I can switch between clean that beautiful dirty sound :) (I heard the JCM900 is good given two independent channels, but also heard the cleans aren't that great)
-I will be using it predominately for rehersals, studio and bedroom, so doubt I can max the volume to get the gain that Im after. attenuator may be an option, but dont know if that is the best option as yet.
-Budget around 1.5 - 2k

I hope that gives people something to work off. I know that people say get a Tim Caswell #39 or a Jube but given that I'm in Aus, its near impossible to get them over here, and whilst I would love it, I dont think these have the footswitch option.

So thats pretty much it.

Thanks in advance for any comments. Please dont flame the newbie as well, there's just so many options, DSL, MG, VM, Plexi etc etc.... I'm just so lost...... Oh I have tried the JCM800, but it was a single channel one. Loved it, but I wasnt able to switch it, but yeah thanks again.

About Integrated Bass System amps...

The Integrated Bass System line of amps contains the...

3510 (100W) bass head
3520 (200W) bass head
3530 (300W) bass head
3540 (400W) bass head
3560 (600W) bass head

Now aside from the obvious power differences, I've seen photos of all these models of IBS amps and I've noticed that some have more features then others.

I've heard the 3530 and I love it, I want to get one but they're hard to find. I've seen the other models floating around so if they produce the same sound Im definitely going to get one.

So my question is do all the other models sound like the 3530? Or is every single one unique?

And if they are all the same, at what level does each amp break up? I want to get a mid ranged overdriven distortion sound, and to do that I need to get the amp loud enough that its no longer clean and breaks up. I want the amp to break up in a normal band situation, so 120db break up point is not ideal.

Any help at all is very appreciated. Thanks.

Amp or Cab problem?

I just got home from overseas to find my wife had purchased an MG412A cab and MG100DHFX amp as a welcome home surprise. Played for about twenty minutes at maybe quarter volume, about five minutes at half volume, and then the sound dropped to maybe an eighth of what it should be. Doesn't matter if it's on clean channel or not--only one speaker is actually projecting any sound, and even that's with a terrible tone...almost like i've got a bad cable jack on my guitar. (it's not that--checked with all 3 guitars).

I know squat about anything other than tiny little practice amps, so I don't know what's wrong or what to check. And the fact that only one speaker in the cab is actually making any sound confuses me even more. It's the top right speaker (looking from the back side), if that makes any difference.

Please help?!

Marshall Haze 40 Combo dead after two months

Bought my first tube amp (Marshall Haze 40) a little over two months ago from a shop, a couple of days ago the volume started cutting out for maybe 1-2 seconds. Then after a few minutes of this the amp suddenly cut all volume from guitar and started making an ear splitting loud buzzing noise.

I turned it off immediately and disconnected it from the wall, next time i tried it it seemed fine for about 30 seconds then the buzzing again. Now it just goes straight to the buzzing noise once off standby, it is not affected by volume controls or overdrive.

Also there is no buzzing immediately upon turning it on, only when standby is disengaged, but once I put it back on standby the buzzing is still present at a low volume until it is turned off completely.

Any Ideas?

Hi all New to this forum. I picked up a new 1923c combo about 5 months ago. I absolutely love it. I have been playing a DSL 100 head through a 1960 AV cab for about 10 years but finally got tired of lugging a half stack around to gigs. I started looking for a 50 watt combo but couldn't find one i liked. Then all the sudden i found out about this amp and I was sold. Finally a combo with exactly the same features as my DSL100 in a 50 watt version. Got it for $1450
USD on Ebay. Said factory B stock from Nova Musik but when I opened the box this thing was brand new. I love this amp any one else have a love story like mine??
