Good deal on a 6100 in Aus.

Just through my eBay scourings I came across this. Seems in good condition and pretty cheap. I can't afford it but just a heads up to anyone in Australia!

btw that amp will go for over $1700 easy. One went for about $2000 a couple of months ago and it was in excellent condition.

Re: Good deal on a 6100 in Aus.

Nah I don't have the cash. I'd be happy to see someone on here grab it. I don't reckon it will go for over $1500. No one has bidded yet and I know there will be a last minute rush but I reckon it'll go for a good price.

I was going to buy one for $1650 four months ago so $1225.00 is a bonus.

Sorry. I knew that you said you were going to go up to $1000, but if you were going to go up to more I wouldnt have bid. I expected it to go for at least $1500.

He messaged me before and said he just fired it up to check that all is good, and his words "...gee it sounds good!!"

I start my 2 weeks holidays on friday so Yeah i will do some comparison clips along side the JVM. I've always wanted to know how they compare.

Btw-I had been watching it since it was put up on ebay last week so I didnt just pounce on it because of this thread. I honestly thought it would go for over $1700 .

Re: Good deal on a 6100 in Aus.

Just recieved it today.
-It looks really nice.
-After 10 mins with it it sounds like a souped-up JCM900 to me. Which is ok-I always thought when owning 900's "if only this 900 had a bit more gain". And the 6100 provides a lot more gain.
-Lots more sag than the JVM.
-The clean channel sounds a little valvestate to me. (well a lot like a valvestate clean) even more so than the 900.
-But there are lots of buttons so I need to spend time with it.

So the initial impression was not wow!! But I need to get to know the amp which is even more complicated than the JVM in its layout, with all its push in buttons.

i hate when the initial feeling isnt one of WOW.. Yeh you need to spend some more time with it and let your ear adjust to it..

After 2 weeks you will know if its for you or not..

Thanks for the update !

Youre right, i have to have at least a week with it to know what it can do. Atm I notice its geared more towards a 900 than an 800. Its still cool, because its so different to the amps I already own.
i dont even know if the tubes are any good yet, so I'll retube it nxt week.

I just switched it off but wanna switcch it on again now!

Re: Good deal on a 6100 in Aus.

I've decided to retube this amp as it would have been tubed when first released.
A list of the particular tubes that I need to buy will be appreciated. And links to any places that sell the tubes as a set will be good.

thanks.
