Vinyl.

Yup, vinyl.

Who out their still enjoys some of their favourite albums on a good ol' turntable, right now I'm listening to Exodus' Fabulous Disaster on a record my mum probably bought in the 80's xD

Sounds great, the needle is a little old so it's a bit noisy, but it's bloody great.

Hmm... 665 posts, where should I spent my 666th post?

Re: Vinyl.

I bought a new needle for my record player, that I pulled out of the attic, a couple months ago. I love that thing but would really like to get a better power amp and pair of speakers. Nothing beats vinyl but it sure is a lot bigger than an IPOD.

Re: Vinyl.

I love my record collection, the last couple records I spun was Dead Boys, and the album "Go Girl Crazy" by the Dictators. Since you're a metal head you should check them out, it was Ross the Boss's band before he joined Man-O-War. Also him and the singer did another hard rock heavy metal project called Manitoba's Wild Kingdom which is worth checking out as well.

ANY recommended idle current is a guideline and in no way a necessary requirement. There is no skeleton key for any tube amp.

Re: Vinyl.

I have a pretty massive stereo set up. Three different SS amp and one tube Hi Fi amp. I have a super nice Pioneer PL-550 turntable. The cartridge cost $200. I have every AC/DC album ever made on vinyl. Lot's of Bon Scott. I also have my original Led Zep and Deep Purple's first four albums. I have two good size boxes full of albums. My second wife made off with some of them. The bitch.

Re: Vinyl.

Damn Marty, I wouldn't take that if I were you.

I'd love to get the soundtrack to The Song Remains The Same on vinyl and listen to it through a nice tube amp, I love that recording.

I'm most likely doing a pretty small beginning electronics engineering course next year, If I pick up on it enough I might start a tube hifi build. That or just buy a kit and chuck it together, decent hifi tube amps are so expensive xD

Re: Vinyl.

Well what I did for almost three years was buy old tube amps on EBAY and modify them into Hi Fi or guitar amps. I have two 35 watt RCA amps that sound just like a Fender Tweed. Hey, I just remembered, that's where Fender got the idea for their first amp. Yeah, those RCA's are nice, but they don't have a cabinet. When you play them, you are looking right at the tubes.

Anyway, there are always tube stereo amps for sale, either working or not. If you pick up on trouble-shooting tube amps, this is a great way to get into a great tube Hi Fi amp.

I prefer the sound of my tube amp over the SS stuff. I think I told you already that I run a SS amp to a subwoofer and then crossover at 100Hz to the tube amp and into some custom three-way speakers. This allows me to get some loud volume out of my tube setup.

I also get to use some of my nicer 12AX7 tubes in the preamp with two 7025's.

Something on my wish list is a tube powered headphone amp. They are frickin' cool. You can swap tubes and hear the difference really good.

Re: Vinyl.

Building my own hifi amp would be way funner I reckon, and I could get it exactly how I want it.

I'd probably build something with more power than I need just so I never have to worry about break up if I wanna listen to blasting music.

Re: Vinyl.

I just pre-ordered the Skinny Puppy - Last Rights re-issue on vinyl. I'm not much of a collector though. I have some old vinyl like Kiss, Dead Kennedys, Venom, Wasp, Elvis amongst others. All the soft stuff was my Grandmom's which she gave me before she moved. I'll need a new needle for my table before I crank up Last Rights. I haven't played anything on it in over a decade. The last records I remember playing were my Halloween sound effect albums.

Re: Vinyl.

I have a lot of cassettes from the 80s. Not too much vinyl. The Venom vinyl is American Assault. I have a bunch of their cassettes too. I have all the early Exodus, Slayer, etc on cassette. Nowadays, vinyl is so expensive, I wish I had collected those instead of cassettes I probably would have worn them out anyways. My copy of Bonded By Blood is shot.

Re: Vinyl.

I'm surprised my copy of Fabulous Disaster is so good still. Sounds awesome. Mums bf has a copy of a Black Sabbath from the late 70s or early 80s and it's so fucked.

Re: Vinyl.

Pink Floyd, Judas Priest, Molly Hatchet, Radiohead, the Beatles, Robert Goulet's X-mas album...they all sound better on vinyl! Mine is from the 80s and has a 'seek' feature...sweet!
