Re: Loudest Gig?
When I saw Ozzy Osbourne it was pretty bloody loud, and it was the second furtherest I'd been from the stage in a gig. When I left I almost had no hearing at all.

Re: Loudest Gig?
Triumph. A Canadian band. It was late 70-s - early 80's. I was thrilled that I had managed to get front row seats to something...After the warm-up band played and they took their stuff off the stage, they started to get the PA and stage setup for Triumph. An amp was turned on standby and just the buzzing from the amp was very very loud and I knew I was in trouble. When they started playing it was absolutely painful. I had to move to the back of the arena just to avoid being permanently deaf!

ACE Frehley at the House of Blues in Anaheim 2008. He had it loud enough for a stadium. My ears hurt really bad after that.

Re: Loudest Gig?
Bongripper from Chicago. My phone was stolen at a show we played a few months back, so I don't have the picture of their setup, but here it is:
Stage right: two Sound City heads a Laney GH1200H emperor 4x12 emperor 6x12 oversized emperor 2x12/15??? Stage Left: two JCM800/900 heads two marshall cabs bassist: two Orange heads two Orange 4x10s there might've been more, I really can't remember. regardless, it was the most ungodly loud thing I've ever seen. So glad I started wearing earplugs to shows before I saw them...

Re: Loudest Gig?
Believe it or not, for me it was seeing Big Sugar (Canadian band) in a small university pub (narrow basement venue, all concrete walls). Crazy, insane levels of volume, esp. Gordie's guitar.
I knew things were loud when my ears started making computer noises... only show I've ever moved further back from the stage at, due to volume. Great show, though!

Re: Loudest Gig?
As for larger bands/venues - Metallica comes to mind. Big outdoor show near Barrie, Ontario - you could hear them for fucking miles around.

Re: Loudest Gig?
David Lee Roth, Eat 'Em and Smile tour in '86 with Steve Vai on guitar. We had floor seat at the Spectrum in Philly. I saw a ton of shows there from the late 70's onward, but the sound levels at this show were brutal. Some songs with easy chord structures like Tobacco Road took a few bars to even recognize what they were playing. My ears were ringing the entire next day after that one, but it was a fantastic band (also Billy Sheehan on bass) and show.

Re: Loudest Gig?
After today, I'm thinking,
If I ever get big and play gigs everywhere, watch out, cause my rig will be loud, maximum power tube distortion = awesome... But goddamn is it loud, I was in a space, only surrounded by trees and houses (All spread far apart) and I was getting natural reverberation using a halfstack with 10" speakers xD Just imagine me with a fullstack and a full band... MWUAHAHA

Re: Loudest Gig?
Gary Moore late 80's or something - it was so freaking loud my ears were ringing for three days after the concert
![]() I really don't get it, music is great loud but there's a fine line between loud and painfully loud. I saw Steve Vai a couple of years ago and he's definitely one of my favorite musicians and I love his music – however, the indoor concert was unfortunately a disappointment since the guy at the mixing desk seemed deaf and figured the rest of us also being deaf or aspiring for future hearing aids

Re: Loudest Gig?
1. Pantera, Crowbar San Diego, 1991, far beyond driven tour, Dimebags solos (and back then he used ALOT of whammy pedal) were so loud, they hurt the bridge of my nose, some notes he would hit i would have to duck down under the level of the rest of the crowd to try to dodge the pure deafening sound. loudest of my life.
2. Pantera, Neurosis San Bernadino, 1996? great southern trendkill tour. another great concert, but with my previous experience with Pantera, i sat up in the seats and watched the show. 30 minutes into their set i was being dragged around in the pit. 3. Sepultura, Snack (my band), cir. 1997, Placentia. "Club 369" the pit section at 369 was only maybe 30-40 feet in diameter, so a lot of people were packed in that area, this was just before their japan tour with that new black singer guy, while the original singer went off and started soulfly. great gig, landed it cause we knew the owner personally. i was standing 15 feet from the drummer sidestage! |

Re: Loudest Gig?
Aerosmith in about 1979 I think it was. They had a curtain up around the stage and when the lights went down they played the music to the psycho shower scene at a deafining volume. Then they raised the curtain and ripped into the first song. I swear it was twice as loud as the intro. They were all the way into the chorus before I could even tell that the song was Rats In The Cellar!
I started bringing ear plugs to concerts after that !

Re: Loudest Gig?
a lot of people get intimidated by the fake amps kiss has in the back. They dont even work, and people think they are loud cuz of that. Most of the sound comes from the fucking PA system.................it doesnt come from cranked amps lol

Re: Loudest Gig?
Hey, you might think this is lame, but I don't get to many concerts. I got to see Loverboy..........
..........YES, THAT'S RIGHT.....Loverboy......on my first anniversary. Small venue, 'bout 4,000 people, outside. Mike Reno freakin' wails. The guy literally hurt my ears and I've had plenty of damage already to them over the years. Lead guitarist (forgot his name) played a goldtop and a set of JCM 800's; hey, I'd never seen them and my wife was a big fan, so I was jazzed that they rocked harder than I expected at a small venue. They stole the show from Eddie Money![]()

Re: Loudest Gig?
Ted Nugent...Mile High Stadium in Denver Colorado. 1978 I think. I know that he plays insanely loud, but the PA was cranked!! You couldn't even tell what song they were playing!! I remember that there were complaints from miles around.
I saw Aerosmith in Albuquerque New Mexico around the same time. Too frickin loud!! couldn't tell what was being played. |

Re: Loudest Gig?
AC/DC was pretty loud. I could not hear my English teacher at all the next morning. My friend went too. We were like yelling just to hear each other, and the teacher was just laughing at us.
![]() ![]() ![]() I also saw some shitty punk rock band that had two half stacks, but it was in a very small, and rectangle room, with no windows. It wasn't as loud as AC/DC, but because of the conditions, it was pretty loud. One time, just for kicks, I turned my JCM2000 dsl100 all the way up with my les paul. THAT WAS LOUD AS FUCK! Does anybody have any idea how loud that is in decibels?
