Re: Loudest Gig?

Have to blame Ritchie Blackmore too. Rainbow in the early 80s was insanely loud, the crowd begged for mercy (more turn the volume down motions than devil horns being flashed). The Black Knight would not relent...I think the damage from that show alone was permanent.

Shows were loud in general back then, but Rainbow was physically punishing.

Re: Loudest Gig?

I reckon Slayer on friday may have been my loudest gig. It was so loud it actually sounded like their speakers were distorting, but listening to recordings their tone was fine, it was my ears distorting xD

And Tom Araya blew his voice, so it was basically only the crowd singing, and that couldn't be heard over their set up xD

Re: Loudest Gig?

My loudest ever:

AC/DC..."For Those About to Rock"...think about 10 OR 20 (I Was too wasted count how many) REAL CANNONS GOING OFF ATLEAST 50 TIMES during the title song...

"Shoot, fire, shoot, fire, ....shoot, fire, shoot....etc, etc............."

We were like 5 or 6 rows from the stage...My ears were ringing for for at least 3 days!

A close second: Motorhead..."Ace of Spades" album tour

Re: Loudest Gig?

'Saw the Deftonesa few years back and I am not so sure about actuall Db's but from a sonic stand point, that shit was pretty over the top.

Those dudes pushed a lot of air and a lot of sub octive stuff and really airy sonic highs too.

Insect Warfare a month ago. I had my earplugs in (25db reduction) and it was still too loud.

Re: Loudest Gig?

Apparently the world record holder for the loudest gig ever is.... (wait for it).... Man O' War. A lot of people raise eyebrows when I tell 'em that, but apparently its true.....

Re: Loudest Gig?

Both from Wiki:

On July 15, 2009, at the Cisco Ottawa Bluesfest in Ottawa, Canada, the band KISS achieved a SPL of 136 dB measured by City of Ottawa Bylaw officers at the sound tent during their live performance (not the sound check). After noise complaints from neighbors in the area, the band was forced to turn the volume down.

The heavy metal band Manowar is one claimant of the title of "loudest band in the world", citing a measurement of 129.5 dB in 1994 in Hanover. Manowar achieved a SPL of 139 dB during the sound check (not the actual performance) at the Magic Circle Fest in 2008.

I saw Ace on that tour at the House of Blues in New Orleans and it was loud as hell! I'm with you. At first, I was standing near a PA column. I had to move more towards the center because it was brutal! The high end was so loud it actually made me flinch a few times from ear pain!

But what an awesome show!!!

Yngwie is very loud as well. VERY loud.

Motley Crue '89 Dr. Feelgood tour was LOUD!

I went to the metallica concert on tuesday, and it wasnt loud at all! it was loud enough, but comparing it to the KISS concert, KISS was loud, and so was Iron Maiden. I have been at small clubs where the sound is actually fucking loud. There is this little pub called Mavericks, and they basically have a big PA system and like all this set up, for like a 7 metre long club.
