Re: The first concert you attended

Man, just from looking at the first page, you guys have seen some cool gigs back in the day.

Mine was The Offspring in 2003 when I was 9. But then Megadeth when I was 13 in 2007, which was awesome, but I got thrown out at one stage from jumping from the seats to the floor, got back in, my mum's an ace liar.

Re: The first concert you attended

my first was Bon jovi Nov 89 in the Perth Entertainment Centre here in Australia I was 15 then I love them just as much now. I have seen them 5 times and got on stage with them in 2003 in Glasgow Scotland. That was the best gig of my life.

Re: The first concert you attended

Wow, I must be the oldest guy on the board...!
My first "national act" was Grand Funk RailRoad around 1969...
Next probably was Alice Cooper "Love it to Death" tour around the same time. Deep Purple a few different shows in the early 70s, with Ian Gillian and with David Coverdale.
I saw Queens very first show in the USA at the Agora in Columbus Ohio around 1974. I saw Kiss as a opening act for Blue Oyster Cult. The New York Dolls opened first around 1973 in North Carolina. I saw Kiss headline at the Agora again on Halloween night 1974 in Columbus Ohio. Most fun concert I have ever been too.
Saw the Who, original lineup, maybe 1975. Zepplin around the same time both in Cincinnati.
Ziggy Stardust (Bowie) Detroit 1973(?). ZZ Top as a opening act to Alice Cooper, maybe 1973.
Montrose with Sammy Hagar. UFO, too many to list....! Man this makes me feel old...!

Re: The first concert you attended

Hmmmmm:
The first time I plucked the strings on my uncles National, I was not quite walking yet, but I did manage to climb up on my grandmothers bed and strum a few open strings..
He was a professional musition and had allways played for us, sence 20 years befor I come along..
My dad flew in there and screamed to get away from that thing..
His brother told him to shut up,, he just may want to play someday...
He was very right..
But the first concert I was taken to was in 1967..
My brother was home on leave from the USMC ,and his girlfriend asked why not bring me to the show with them..( Bless her heart!)
The Zombies..
In a roller rink..
Between sets Rod Argent took a bit of time to talk to me about there equipment and how they moved it from show to show,, and how much of it was not theres , but leased..
I was only 12, and very impressed...

Re: The first concert you attended

After rereading the posts it got me thinking if there is still any videos of some of the old shows I saw. I found a few... Still pretty cool...

Imagine seeing this for the 1st time in a small club...!

Saw this show on Halloween night '74 Same club as the Queen show..

Montrose with Sammy around the same time at the same club...
What's funny is that Van Halen used to do Covers of Montrose
before they had a record deal...

One more show that I saw at the same club... The Agora, Columbus, Ohio

Found many, many more but these are a good taste of them...

Re: The first concert you attended

I seen Ronnie Montrose here a few years back, maybe 2002-2004.
He played the Sandy Corley Harley Benifit..
Proceeds go to the local hospitals cancer clinic..
Sandy Corley Memorial Run
Its usually a pretty good show, frequented mostly by bikers..
In your video, looking behind him, it lookes like he is useing a little Fender Deluxe tweed or possibly Tweed Twin???
When he played here, he used a rack feeding about four PA setups spread across the stage..
The poor folks that crushed the stage, missed out on about 3/4ths of his work..
If you stayed back 2/3rds the way deep in the crowd,, It Was Excelent!
A funny sidenote:
Most the Bikers there got pretty pissed..
He would not play "Bad Motorscooter"!
Sammy I beleive wrote it, and they were feuding over the rights..
So he left it out of his set list.
Myself...
He kicked some Serious Arse!

Re: The first concert you attended

Pink Floyd, Manchester, I think it was 1969, they were out without Syd for the first time doing Ummagumma.

It was at the Free Trade hall and the place was one third empty, I imagine that didn't happen many times after that..............

What a gig tho.

That is too funny. I saw Sammy a couple of years ago and Ronnie came onstage and did Bad Motor Scooter with him. When I saw them back then he used Marshalls. That video was for a radio or TV station show. That's why the quality is so good. I guess they blew everyone away during that taping. Side note. If I'm not mistaken that is a '59 Les Paul he is playing that J. Geils gave him. It was stolen during a show in Ohio around the same time. He has been looking for it for years and it just turned up in Gary Moore's collection and they are in the middle of a lawsuit over it. I don't think Gary actually stole it but I don't know how he aquired it.

Also, I HAD to add this song Circa mid '70s... Local group from Columbus, Ohio.. The Godz.... They played The Agora many times. PLAY IT LOUD...!!!
The original guitar player nows plays for Bob Seger..(Mark Chatfield) There were many lineup changes thru the years...

Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony... Chatfield is playing a Ernie Ball Musicman Silhouette...

Re: The first concert you attended

Someone I had the pleasure to meet this year, and still is a blast...

I knew I would get the chance to meet him..
And had thought of bringing down my Strat for him to sign..
But did not want the hassel of hauling it , and worrying if it would be safe threw the night..
I had to tell him,," Damn Mitch,, I been listening to your stuff for near 40 years now, Your show tonight, was as good or better than ever!"
His version of "Gimme Shelter" is as good as Any I have herd..
He signed the CD, (Duane- Allways My Fan- Mitch Ryder).

Forgot all about him. When I was growing, Mitch Ryder was THE MAN...!!! "Mitch Ryder and the Detroit Wheels" doing Lou Reeds "Rock and Roll"....! I still have my 45 of this song and an album with most of those other songs........

We used to do "Little Latin Lupe lu" Damn I am old....!!! But do yourself a favor, if you have never heard anything by Mitch Ryder go out and get some of his old stuff. Incredible....

Re: The first concert you attended

Its Funny:
Bob Seger always said,, He wanted to be like Mitch when he grew up..
The first show I seen him (Seger)at in 1970 was an outdoor show featureing about eight headliners from Michigan.
Lake Odessa Speedway.
Was a Noon to Midnight thing.
I cant completly remember the lineup..
Was a bit of a fuzzy time and space..

Teagarden and VanWinkle.
Iggy Pop's and the Stooges. (hes from my town)
Quicksilver Messenger Service.
The MC-5.
Mitch Ryder and the Detroit Wheels.
Bob Seger. The Bob Seger System,
(I remember someone in the crowd yelling,, Your all washed up Bob, You cant do it anymore)
Ted Nugent and the Amboy Dukes.
Pretty much that order.

Because of overlapping delays, encores & latecomers , Nugent did not crank up his two Fender Dual Showman's till about 12:15 A.M.
He finished up just about 2:00..
He later got sued by a farmer about two miles away, That claimed his cows would not give milk for a month..
I partied there with my 11th grade english teacher,, befor I knew she was a teacher,, and befor she knew I was going to be her student..
That was a bit strange , but I did get a decent grade..

I've heard that story before. I used to see Seger and Ted at the Reynoldsburg Roller Rink (Columbus, Ohio) back in 60s.... Out of all those old shows I never got to see the Motor City Five before...

Re: The first concert you attended

Standing 25 foot from Wayne Kramer when he was rockin out was a blessing..
And he did Kick Out The Jam's Brothers and Sisters..

They called about anyone and everyone up on the stage to sing that with them..
Peoples stuff was getting knocked off the backside of the stage,, they that led to a bit of holdup..
But have to say it was a bit unique..
One of my three friends I was there with still raves about it!
Was great stuff in its day...
