Just watch...
I'm definitely not a fan boy and I really don't like some of Steve's stuff but this is just incredible, so smooth and fluent with awesome tone. Even if you hate Vai, just watch it...

Re: Just watch...
That is some ridiculous playing.
I will NEVER be able to play like that. But to be bluntly honest, it doesn't do anything for me. I couldn't care less for ultra technical playing. The only "technical" guy that does it for me is Paul Gilbert. To me playing is like cars... sure an F1 can go faster and cut corners better than any vehicle I will ever own... but it doesn't give me a boner like a '71 'cuda does...

I love watching the occasional Steve Vai clip because - well frankly - he is amazing But he is absolutely a McLaren F1 and I'm more of a 1970 GTO guy (or Pat Travers) ![]()

Re: Just watch...
I agree 100%. I do like a Ferrari or Aston Martin Here and there but nothing gets me like a '67 Mustang Fastback...

Re: Just watch...
Love the face he makes @ 5:02 and 5:41 Him in all his glory being unleashed. I saw this tour and got back stage at Jones Beach Theatre and met them...esp Satch, he was ultra cool. There's parts where he and the keyboard player...Mike Keneally trade riffs on guitar it was incredible! I personally think he was at his peak back then and that this was his best band, Mangini, Bynoe and Keneally
Check out "Passion and Warfare" if you want to hear more, that was when he became the guitar God that he is today! Keneally is real goofy and REAL good! and this one Love the sweeps And Yeah I love Vai |

Re: Just watch...
Anytime somebody says "Vai has no feeling", "Vai plays with no soul or emotion" or any other BS, that is the clip I pull up. Say what you will, but I see plenty of feeling and emotion in that clip.
Since we are posting our favorite muscle cars: ![]() I'll take that over the F1.

Re: Just watch...
You have to be a real fan to be able to hum or whistle the melodies.
The biggest hits in history have "hum-able" melodies (typing this while humming some Red Fang....). That is my explanation of why people either hate or love his style. P.S. Yes, I would love to be able to play like him. Doesn't mean I would play music like that though.
