A Humbling Experience coming up!!

Tomorrow night my band is playing a rather large venue. I just found out that we are following Brian TD Clark..a pro, international act who is a guitar virtuoso.... God will I be intimidated climbing the stage after this dude...

There is no way in HELL I can follow that act!

Break a leg, dude! People are there to see a show. If you look like you're having a good time people will dig it! Bring the energy and things will be awesome.

Re: A Humbling Experience coming up!!

Treat it just like any other show- play your heart out and have a good time. This guy is a musician just like the rest of us. A few members of one of my favorite bands was at our CD release a few weeks ago, standing right by the stage the whole time. I was kinda intimidated at first, but then the dudes refused to take our CD for free- they insisted on paying for it and told us how much they enjoyed the show... a real musician will appreciate your talent for exactly what its worth.

Yup, I like shred, and like Yngwie, BUT hearing a band that plays slower and lets the chords ring out is just as good! After Brain is done shredding for a whole set...the crowd might be bored with that and then you guys hit the stage and play a different style....

Good Luck and go get em!

Re: A Humbling Experience coming up!!

After hearing that guy shred for a full set people will be loving the fact that you guys are a straight up rock band, like mentioned above most people aren't into the million notes a minute thing and by the time you guys get on you could easily steel the show just playing simple shit, but shit the crowd can move to.

Not that what you guys play is simple, just in comparison to the million note per minute style of playing is all I'm saying, no disrespect here brother.

Re: A Humbling Experience coming up!!

Who's more popular Malmsteen or ACDC ? Great rock music has nothing to do with guitar prowess, but more to do with attitude, some confident rocked out ability with your music, and practice your "rock poses and facial expressions" as they are really important.

Re: A Humbling Experience coming up!!

Not trying to take away from TD Clark's skill, but I find it very odd that they would get a Yngwie type of guitarist, open for Yngwie himself. Thats like little god opening for god himself, but Im not saying Yngwie is god or anything, just using the analogy. And yes, I have to agree with GDH, the amount of notes doesnt have to justify the validity of a band! ACDC!!!!

Hey, actually it went quite well. The TD Clark guy was awesome, and fun to watch play, but the overwhelming majority of the music was all instrumental, and only folks like myself thoroughly enjoyed it. The rest of the audience after several songs seemed to quickly become disinterested. When we finally got a chance to play, by the end of our set a mosh pit had formed in front of the stage and people were laughing, dancing and having a good time...of course the increase of intoxication undoubtedly did play a factor though..

In the end we had allot of fun but made ZERO dollars. The main act got all the coin...Glad I have a job to go to tomorrow!!!

Re: A Humbling Experience coming up!!

Ha, that guy is a bit laughable when you're expecting greatness, bum noes all over the show and no real technique. I didn't hear a nice, controlled vibrato or bend anywhere, just a guy picking notes in a scale and hoping for the best except his fingers werent working fast enough to hit the note at the right time. It sounds like a high school practice room to me. I'm sure Yngwie was laughing backstage

But good for him, he's playing what he enjoys and more power to him. Obviously doing something right to be playing out in the first place
I don't like to pick on anyone no matter how bad I think they are, music is an art and as with all art. Some people think things suck, others are awestruck. There is no real right or wrong but technique is another thing all together,
