Tunes that evoke emotion.
As musicians we occasionally hear a song that strikes a cord with our emotions for what ever reason. Could be a childhood event, relationship, death, etc. but these tunes are real and bring your emotions to the surface.
Here are a couple of tunes that bare my soul at times. Post yours, and perhaps there'll be similarities or comparisons. Cheers, Barrie.

Re: Tunes that evoke emotion.
Bohemian Rhapsody does it for me, one of the greatest band to me and such a tragic loss with Freddie, this one moves me...

Re: Tunes that evoke emotion.
This song chokes me up sometimes...
The best part is that the singing is done with a LP and JTM45 Peter Green's notes are all gold!

+ + + a billion vintage. I would love to get your opinion on this: Would it be going too far to suggest that Santana owes almost everything to Peter Green? I like to listen to Santana and I know he learnt his stuff before he heard Green - and he has his own very nice tones and phrases that I love to hear - but still... I sometimes think that Black Magic Woman is actually Supernatural watered down for popular consumption. You know - because most people would not like the strong taste of the undiluted concentrate. It's too much.

Re: Tunes that evoke emotion.
The thing about what is emotional is...
Is it Emotional or Sentimental? I have always liked to hear Santana play Europa or Samba Pa Ti. (No links supplied - you guys know them.) I'm not sure whether I'm responding to Emotion, Sentiment or Melody. When I say 'sentiment' I mean something like "mere sentiment" - it's supposed to sound insulting. On the other hand it's very possible that I'm no musician anyway - just a sentimental old fool. Here's my emotion vid. When I was getting back into playing guitar a couple years ago I would play this on loop all night long VERY loud while I sleeped. It was probably quite taxing for the family. I think I was trying to hammer something into my brain in order to get playing again. Larry McCray, Soulshine, with his nice LP with P90s.

Re: Tunes that evoke emotion.
So to my mind, in the past, Country means Sentimental.
Is all Country "merely" sentimental? I thought that in the past Now I don't. And I can hardly believe I used to be so young (and ignorant). When I was young I used to wonder why anybody liked country music. I assumed it was because they mistook an easy sentimentality in that genre for real emotion and feeling. I didn't know that some of the real masters of guitar were playing mainly country. I thought that playing four chords to the bar was hard: I didn't know that in country music playing eight chords to a bar is pretty normal when the groove is cooking - and players will riff at 16 to the bar too, like in rockabilly grooves, like Bill Haley etc. Yes, this thread has got my confessions out... I have been making some internal changes lately: every genre I listen to seems awesome for different reasons. _______________________________________ Here's my secret country love: Country - Emotion: Roy Buchannan, Sweet Dreams I can hardly believe how bored the audience looks. I want to shout at them: "you're listening to one of the masters - this is beautiful playing - he's not going to be here for long - don't take this for granted... Barrie - or Las Palmas Norte, if that even IS your real name... You are evidently very evil. Or very holy. Or very balanced in your perspective. Or something. You have made me and others confess sins and secret vices and secret loves.

Chopin and Beethoven....you can feel what they were feeling (takes awhile since we have to listen to modern pianists rehashing their work but, listen to many if you have to) and tell me you don't feel the emotional struggle in fur Elise? (future reference i'm not a dick, lol. I have asperger's syndrome so i talk funny, lol but, i'm not pretentious or arrogant etc I know i'm nothing special) listen to Chopin and you hear the whimsy and intense depression of isolation.....that's what good music does for me anyway and i'll admit hearing truly inspired songs will make me cry. sometimes they grip so hard it's like a fist around the heart, pulls the air right out of you. Those rare pieces are what keep me going and of course they bring back memories and feelings from youth etc so theirin lies the sentiment. Yeah i know but, i have a very strong attachement to music. I see it in my head like a crossover on a stereo etc. i see it in my head. It's the asperger's. that's something few people knew until i was diagnosed because i knew it sounded nuts but, apparently it's not and it's real and it's NORMAL for people with AS. i see everything very clearly in my head especialy sound. every sound has a shape, color and movement. it's very physical to me. sorry for the rant, lol.

Santana is great as well, Peter definately influenced him but i dont think he owes all to him. Santana still has his own style. Another favourite of mine below, i love Mick Taylors slow, heartfelt slide in this song...

Re: Tunes that evoke emotion.
Real nice that one hack ... real nice! I have 7 year old grandson. I wish I lived closer so I could teach him guitar. At some point I have to return the favor my dad taught me. Time keeps on tickin' and before you know it, you'll be a grandpa too.
Cheers, Barrie.
