Argh! I saw an ad for a 4x12 cab with greenbacks listed in my area for a phenomenal price, so we're emailing back and forth about setting up a time to check it out and I said I'd want to take off the back to check out speakers, wiring, condition, etc. He writes back and says, "OK, but you'll need to bring your own screwdriver cause mine's broken".

At that point, I thought about writing back to say I could wait until he gets his screwdriver back from the shop if he needed to take it in for service, since I was about 99% sure how this was going to turn out. But I wrote back to say, ok, fine.

Sure enough, a few minutes later I get a message saying, "oh, I made a mistake in my ad, they aren't greenbacks, I think they're the stock celestions". Turns out it's the MG412a cab, which has speakers that Celestion didn't even bother to give a model number. Sheesh!

You said it, brother. The thing is, his price still wasn't too bad for anyone who might be interested in that cab, so there really wasn't any reason to misrepresent it. But then, people do lots of things for no good reason.

You'd be amazed at the things people will come up with once you say, "Yeah, I'm interested in the cabinet you have for sale, but I need to see the speakers". Speakers make or break the cabinet. I wonder why people think there $100 cabinets and $1500 cabinets. Some just don't have a clue.
