1x12/2x12/4x12 no difference live?

hey guys I currently own a twin reverb and princeton reverb and about to purchase a british flavored amp for some natural drive sounds. (tiny terror)

I used to use a marshall 1x12 combo that I believe was oversized, so it had some really nice bass bass and I always got great projection from it.

my playing live through a nice pa with a sound guy experience is limited.

I know everyone likes a 4x12 and so on in a room, being able to appreciate all the sound out of every speaker, and the thump, but live most of the time the audience is hearing a 57 on a single speaker.

To be honest I probably will be using a two amp setup from now on, and the way my budget is and the fact that I don't have roadies at the time would make much more sense to be carrying two 1x12s around.

carrying around my twin reverb is a pain in the ass if live I am going to be able to hear my princeton coming loud and proud through my front monitor wedges, am I missing something here?

the audience is only hearing one speaker of a huge 4x12 anyway....

I'm totally with you on this subject, the wall of 4x12s 80s style is great if you're not the one that has to move the gear , I used to have 2 4x12s back in the day, but now I decided on a single 2x12 cab (Orange) which I originally wired to stereo, I have since wired it back to mono after getting the JVM410H, but the point is, a good 2x12 will be enough for most situations IMHO

my 100w Marshall is ridiculously loud through my Orange 2x12, I rarely have it past half way mic'ed up or not,

I remember seeing Stryper in the late 80's at the Hammersmith Odeon in London and we hung around after the show and saw the gear that they had used in the show, both guitarists were using small 1x12 mesa boogie combos and that was it!, mic'ed up through the PA they sounded immense,

so I guess it comes down to stage monitors and the quality of the PA and skills of the sound techs
even bands like Metallica and Iron Maiden only use a couple of 4x12s each on huge stages so I would go for the 2 1x12s or a single 2x12 if I were you

The main difference I hear as the cab size increases is that you get a much fatter sound out of the bigger cab as compared to that of a smaller cab.

Not meaning to spam, but since you mentioned you were getting the Orange Tiny Terror, I thought I'd let you know that we offer a badass upgrade for these amps...the Mercury Magnetics Holy Terror upgrade kit . We sell it as a DIY kit, or if you're not familiar with amps and electronics, we can also perform the upgrade for you. The kit comes with much better than stock transformers as well as a few minor circuit tweaks. HUGE improvement over stock.

You can read up about it here.
