A good Replacment 2X12 cab

Hello all,

I am totally new to the board. I just picked up the DSL 2000 with the MC412 cab. (you know the one the all the stores were selling for 1299) it's my first tube amp. I am pretty stoked on it. I was wondering, if I was to replace the 4x12 with a 2X12, what would be a decent (or upgrade) 2x12 cab?

Really it's a size issue, in the store it did not look so huge. I have it set up in my home office and it is taking up a bit of space to say the least.

I realize that the foot print will be essentially the same.

Thanks
Greg

Re: A good Replacment 2X12 cab

I am also new to the boards and new to the Marshall brand. I'm also looking for a 2X12 cab. I'm trying to stick to Marshall but I can only find two feasable ones on the net. One is a Marshall 1936. Kinda spendy but great reviews. The other one is a Marshall MC212. Looks like a cheapie-got bad reviews--a lot of 'it rattles.' Make sure you know how to set your head to the right ohms to match the cab. Anyone know of a good Marshall 2X12 cab that runs at 4 ohm mono?

Re: A good Replacment 2X12 cab

Hey Noon,

Whats up dude? I did a bit of research on the board and it sounds like the 1936 2x12 cab is pretty nice. Another guy mentioned that one of the best sounding/nicest cabs around is an Orange, closed back cab w/ vintage 30's. ($$)

Anyone else care to chime in? We need some advice....

Re: A good Replacment 2X12 cab

I have the 1936 cab it runs at 8 ohm mono 16 ohms stereo.

Iv used it for tonnes of gigs and its still strong. Sounds great... low end thump. Im replacing one of the speakers for a vintage 30.

Im making a 2*12 the size of a 4*12 for a project.

The 4*12's do weigh a tonne and are bulky. For what you need the 1936 sounds perfect.

So it's the height that bothers you?

Nothing personal, or anything against 2x12 cabs, but why not keep the thing?

Re: A good Replacment 2X12 cab

Yeah, it’s the height. I can’t hang my god damned guitars above it like I did my nice little combo.

Seriously, I am not in a huge hurry to unload the 4X12. However, there is a guy on my in my area who has a 1936 2X12 for sale and from what I have read that is a much better cab than the MC142 (no name celestions)

I put mine up for trade/sale on Seattle Craigslist.

So all in all, I really would prefer a "higher-end" 2X12 over a "cheap" 4x12.

Cheers,

Greg

Hey, totally get you if it's an MC cab. Yeah, that would be a trade up!

Greg I'm with thrawn86 on this, the 1936 would be a step up from the MC cab, better constructed, better speakers and most importantly much better tone, and honestly your DSL deserves a decent cab to do it justice,
be aware there is also a 1936v model that has vintage 30s installed, pretty awesome cab

you could also take a look at my personal favorite, the Orange PPC212 2x12 with vintage 30s
