1960BV Weapon Of Choice ?

I have all three flavors, vintage 30, greenback's, and stock 75's. I like all of them, but the V-30's have that midrange bark that I love. Celestion claims this speaker to have complex detailed harmonics, and they are right. If you like 80's metal, these speakers nail that sound and then some...What is your opinion????

Re: 1960BV Weapon Of Choice ?

I just bought a bunch of Vintage 30's yesterday. I can't wait to bust them out. I like all three of those speakers you mentioned, of course all for different applications. My Marshall cabs currently have the G12T-75's and I want to try them with the V30's in the "X" pattern. Hopefully I'll get a chance to mess with it today.

I've never tried the X pattern, but V 30's in bottom cab and slant cab with greenies or stock 75's stacked......

Re: 1960BV Weapon Of Choice ?

I run a Marshal Angled 4x12 cab with 4 V-30's.
An old Ampeg 2x12 with V-30's.
Ususlly with a JCM 2000 DSL 100.
And even a little Fender Blues Jr with a V-30.
I have run the Greenbacks in all the above.
Never in a mix and match.
The V-30 is a Pretty Decent Speaker IMO..

The 2x12 V-30 bottom mates up with even my Fender 4x10 Tweed, Blues DeVille!
Pretty good Crunch and a very sharp Bite there..

I'm interested in the result.
I used to run a fullstack live with 1960A + B all with G12T-75's.
I changed the 1960A with a 1960slash with Vintage 30's.
I'm mic'ing the V30's through the PA.
When playing, the V30's are straight in my ear so I obviously hear more of them standing a few feet from the cabs. It's a noticable difference... I almost considered dialing back the mids on the amp at first .. but I just kept playing and now I'm used to it. I love the G12T-75 in the bottom cabs though.. gives me an extra bass thump ...

I'm unsure if rewireing both cabs with the X-pattern is worth the hassle ...
