Can someone who knows about cab wiring PLEASE help me
I use a mesa single rec head with a marshall 1960a cab.
When I turn the volume up my cab starts making a rattling, not so good sound...but i noticed it's coming from all the speakers, not just one. And when I push down on the cable going into the input jack on the cab I can hear the cab shorting in and out a bit. Could this rattling be because I need to replace the jack plate or the speakers? Thanks so much Ryan |

Do you have your impedences (ohm) settings correct?
Make sure the cable you're using is tightened up at each end and that the jacks into the head & cabs don't seem to be loose. Wiggle the cable to see if you have a short.

Re: Can someone who knows about cab wiring PLEASE help me
I've had it set up the same way for over two years so I'm pretty sure that can't be the problem. I am at work so I cant remember exactly what the ohms said.
There was a slight burning smell too. You know the smell I'm talking about...almost like burning plastic and i tried the same cable with the same head on a different cab so I know it's the cab. I opened it up and that's when I could really smell it. It seemed to be coming from the jack plate but I couldnt really tell |

Pull the back off again and check all the speaker leads to make sure they're properly connected. Grab each speaker and give a small yank just to see if they're loose from the baffle. Look at the jack plate to see if there's any melty stuff there too, any loose connections etc. Try that stuff first. Look for any solder joints that seem amiss.
The smell was coming from your cab and not the head?

Cool, ill try that! And yea im positive it was the cab. I've had blown tubes and stuff in the past so I know it wasn't that. I pulled the cab way away from my head just to make sure it was coming from the cab. Plus the head worked fine on our other guitarists cab. There didn't seem to be any melted stuff on the plate, but i wasn't exactly looking closely either haha. Thanks for the replies man. Hopefully ill get this thing figured out

If you find something weird snap some clear pictures of it and post 'em. Check back, someone's bound to chime in and help out around here.
